Alexei Morozov: Legend

Kovalchuk's interview on PuckDaddy. This is from last week but had to be posted if only for RaiderZero.

Quote:
Q. Who would you call a legend?

A. Alexei Morozov, Sergei Fedorov(notes), same Kozlov and Zhitnik... I am naming those who I have played with. People who have seen everything and won a lot of trophies. They have the winning spirit. You can learn from them.
This is like Lemieux calling Ian Moran a legend.

He truly will be known as the one that got away.

I've been saying it for years - the Pens cannot win the cup without a top 6 winger of Morozov's caliber.

I realize he's been tearing up the KHL, but something must be lost in translation here... I mean Zhitnik? Kozlov?

I liked Morozov while he was a Pen and wouldn't mind having him back.

There, I said it.

It'd be nice if he did come back to the pens.

The haunter of Brodeur's dreams!

If only he played for Carolina this year and was the one scoring the goal's when Jersey choked it away. That would have made his dominance even better.

Morozov a legend? I see. Well, I certainly can't have something like this stand and must take it upon myself rectify the situaiton. It's too bad really, Kovalchuk was a fun player to watch before his accident.

Yes. He says:
"I am naming those who I have played with. People who have seen everything and won a lot of trophies. They have the winning spirit. You can learn from them."

So, it's people he knows personally, has played with, and looks up to because of their accomplishments and/or attitude. I don't think he's implying they are legends in the same sense that Mario or Gretz are legends, but more or less a kind of 'idol' as in they are people he looks up to.

Morozov is directly responsible for the single best moment in the years of fail between Lemieux/Jagr and Malkin/Crosby. Don't understand the Morozov hate. Yeah, he isn't Pavel Bure, we get that. Are we also going to hate Fedotenko for not being the second coming of Jagr and Billy Guerin for not being Kevin Stevens?

It's not really Morozov hate as much as it's people hating his name being brought up every single off-season since the lockout. The guy wasn't cut to be an NHLer, he's great for European play and he's 32 now and not coming back. He's happy where he is, he can be much more in Russia than he could ever be here, and the Pens just won the Cup without him and have some good wingers in the pipeline.

I think it is, or should be, a non-issue really. Sometimes it's nice to think "what if" but in his case it's been way overdone now. Give it a rest.

This isn't even a bring-back-Morozov thread, though. It's a thread about Kovalchoo acknowledging Morozov's contribution to the Russian national team.

I will be happy for Morozov if he ends up with a gold medal around his neck in February.
