We have a lot of legitimate NHL goalie prospects. Pickard obviously is on another level in respect to the others.....

Solid article that really highlights another strength in our organization, whereas we are known so much for our defensemen.

Engren was very impressive the first two public sessions of camp. I thought he was on par with Pickard and clearly those two were a step above the others. On Day 3 he clearly took a step backward and was probably the worst goalie on the ice, but that was explained later when I read that he was battling a hamstring injury during the session.

Atte has a lightning quick glove hand, solid positioning - pretty aggressive to cut down angles, quick footwork, read the play well through traffic despite his size, solid rebound control, and good stickwork. I think he'll rocket up the charts this season with a larger role in Europe.

Very few people are actually aware of our depth in goal... so there's no need to be rude about it.

What the article doesn't mention about Lindbäck is that when Markström faltered after coming back from the WJCs, Lindbäck put the team on his back and was THE reason they made the playoffs.

Just out of curiosity, what's the story with Dan Ellis? He looked so good in the playoffs two years ago, did he drop off that fast? I love Rinne, probably the most underrated goalie in the league last year. But was Ellis just a flash in the pan? Did he drop off that hard? Again, I know Rinne took and deserved the number one spot, but I would have thought Ellis would draw some nice trade offers.

Ellis doesn't draw trade offers because Ellis was awful last season (and also because the market for starting goaltenders is drying up). He gave up really bad rebounds all over the place last year.

Ellis will be back this year! Im feeling another good streak like when Mason/Vokoun were pulling it together!

What's the general sentiment around town about Rinne re-signing with the Preds -- is it a definite, probably, maybe, unlikely?

Obviously with the prospect depth, some of the risk is mitigated...

Supposedly one of the main reasons we haven't been active in free agency is knowing that Rinne is due a big raise, which I believe they'll be working on as soon as possible.

What do you guys think about Ellis? He was so good in 07-08' and then sucked last season...will he bounce back? It seems every year for the last 3-4 years you have a goalie play great one season, suck the next and a new starter comes in...or is it just me?

I think Ellis is still a good goaltender, it is just that Rinne is better. Ellis still makes a great backup.

Ellis has flashes of brilliance, but he was in need of some fine tuning last season. The team played much better with Rinne in net.

I don't think Ellis was "bad" last season. He got the majority of his starts in a time when we could neither play defense nor play goals. By the time our season turned around (Sully's return, or thereabouts), Rinne had already taken the job. I definitely feel good knowing that we have Elly in the event that Rinne suffers from the Predators sophomore curse.
