Edm/nas

I'll give this a shot and prepare to be crucified.

To EDM

Martin Erat
Jordin Tootoo

To NASH

Andrew Cogliano
Steve Staios
Riley Nash

Why do this?

I think Erat would be a fine fit as Edmonton 1st line LW. Maybe him and Hemsky can show some of that Czech chemistry. Our top 6 is a log jam at C/RW. Edmonton could also use some grit/checking. I think Tootoo would be perfect.

Why does Nashville do this:

They get a good young player in Cogliano. Who put up very similar numbers to Erat but at 1/4 of the salary. Nashville also only has 5 D-men signed for next year. Staios would fill our their bottom pairing just nicely and add some vetern leadership. Nash is a promising young prospect who probably won't get a look anytime soon with MPS and Eberle ahead of him.

How did i do?

Why is Edmonton always so quick to give up Cogs? I see him in too many proposals. Wasn't he untouchable just last season? I hope Tamby is more patient than some of the people here are.

I'm not trying to throw Cogs under a bus. He's just a trading chip that would make other teams bite. I don't want to give up Gags or Hemsky so Cogliano is the next in line for value. Plus he was already linked to a trade so it makes sense to move him if he might be disgruntled.

i love cogs man if he was to move to lw him and gagner look great together

cog gagner hemsky

if this was to happen cogs would be untouchable it would lead to a great future for us

but as a center he is wasted on the 3rd liner we dont want himto turn into a grinder when he has great offensive up side

How about Penner, Pisani and Staios for Tootoo and Erat and a draft pick?

I'm gonna guess it's because all three of those players have bad contracts where as Erat and Tootoo have fair contracts. Nashville takes on 5 million in salary and gets about equal point production.

You'd probably have to add a pick from Edmonton, IMO.

The first deal is decent, as a fan of neither team.

i dont see why nashville does this.

They give up one of their best players who is on a good contract and a fan favorite for a younger, worse player and an old, uneeded defenceman? Sure they save a bit of money, but i dont think that's a trade you can sell to the fans.

I don't think even multiple draft picks would salvage that one. Nashville and additional salary are two things that never go well together.

I think it's debateable that Cogliano is a worse player. He's 8 years younger and puts up similar points at a fraction of the cost. The only reason Edmonton would make this move is to unload Staios contract and secure a LW. IMO Cogs is the most valuable asset in the deal.

EDIT: Cogliano gets on average of 5 minutes per game less then Erat and puts up similar numbers. Not to mention the fact that he's much faster.

That was a garbage deal.. None of those players would be picked up from waivers. Never mind getting a nice package for them.

Cogliano will not be traded any time soon unless he is packaged for an elite first line forward.

Pass. Erat is viewed as a vital player in Nashville, and Cogliano doesn't really fill a hole.

But I will credit you for not making some half-assed proposal to try to get Weber.

Mm. The scenario in which I'm thinking of this as potentially useful involves Cogliano taking over the second-line center role and Legwand on the wing, because for some reason I have this vague impression that that could be a Good Thing.

I can't see putting two nearly identical players on the same line working out very well.

Cogs said he doesnt want to play anywhere but edmonton... so lets take him out of these proposals. Honestly, once he gets off our plugger 3rd line we will see his true potential and it will make these deals laughable.
