The contract that hurts them the most right now is probably Ryan Malone's at a cap hit of 4.5 for the next 5 years
Malone's cap hit isn't that bad.

Ryan Malone 4.5 a year for 5 years >>>>than Gionta 5 years for 5 mil a year.

I like gionta and all but 6'4 winger who can score, fight, check and reading his scouting report:

Assets

Has impressive size and strength. Can play both center or wing. Is accomplished in the defensive zone and shows excellent offensive potential.

Don't see the harm at 4.5. Not to mention he scored 26 goals in 70 games...that's 30 goals in 82 games.

But Gionta fits our playing style more. hes speedy, smart, quick and has had previous chemistry with our new #1 center.

I think many people expect them to be better, so it wouldn't be a surprise really.
I don't know any team that will take a roster consisting of Vinny, St-Louis, Tanguay, Stamkos, Malone, Ohlund, Hedman, lightly. That much would be stupid.

Personally I think they'll be fighting for a PO spot at the end of the year, but their lack of depth will hurt them.

Does anyone know if we could buyout a contract... explain us the procedures and everything...

I thought of this after a couple of beers ... what if ... we tell gomez we'll buy him out and work a long term contract with a lower cap hit ... ?

pure fiction but somehow I get a feeling its going to happen in the nhl rather sooner than later ...

If you're replying to me I know what you mean, just saying Malone is a well rounded versatile player, useful in top 6 or bottom 6, fights, scores, plays defensively. I see no harm in TB paying him 4.5.

Holy crap, I thought for sure some idiot had bumped an old thread.

The Bolts have made a lot of smart moves this off season. Personally I don't think it would make sense for them to deal Vinny at this time.

Tanguay-Lecavalier-St.Louis is a dangerous line, don't **** it up with a trade that doesn't make sense.
That isn't even going to be their line, not even strength. On the PP you'll see those guys together. 5 on 5 Stamkos and St.Louis have chemistry so you'll probably see:

Tanguay-Lecavalier-____
Malone-Stamkos-St.Louis

Not saying that they should trade Vinny though.

That's exactly what we need. Over 15 million tied up in two centers for years to come.

Hedman is what 18 - 19 years old? 0 NHL experience, Im pretty sure he will have his brain cramps and will take time to feel really confortable.. I still think this team lacks quality depth.. I could see them compete for the 8th spot but I dont see them for real yet..

He plays with men though, kind of like McPhee.

With Gomez on the team we can't really afford another massively overpaid centre...

Lecavalier too Montreal right now doesnt make sense.

Comes back to me in 2 years, when a budget team like Tampa looks for extension to Stamkos and Hedman the next year. Then, a Gomez on a low cost will becomes attractive to them
