As BRB noted in a different thread, Kyle McLaren is an invite to camp.

The Roster was released, no mod deleted it (yet)... so lets run with it... summer was way too long, plus i am sure people will appreciate talking about the camp roster...

McLaren's agent said it's not about the money he'll sign for league minimum with a team, he just wants to play.

Damn McLaren is 32 already? For some reason I thought he was late 20's.

The McLaren situation is interesting imo, say he looks ok, and management does not want to have 2 rookies on the back pairing(hence the Bouillon/Seidenberg rumors), would you prefer McLaren at league min over one of Bouillon/Seidenberg who would probably make 1.5 or around that? This is under the assumption if McLaren shows he can still play. Just forget the whole "let the kids play" argument here. My question is would it be better to have a cheaper McLaren and have more cap space, or an upgrade of Bouillon/Seidenberg and less cap space?

Thats a tough one. If McLaren can play solid as a bottom man at league min, and play a physical game, then I say lets do it. Lock him up for a year. He can easily play the 7th role, healthy scratch, if Torts wants to give a kid a shot.

If Seidenberg wants 3M+ over a year, then i'd cross him off anyway. And the whole Bouillon rumors seemed to have just went into the toilet. So i'm not going to object in giving him a 1 year contract if he proves he can still play solid with limited time.

McLaren has a connection to Mark Messier.

Doug Messier had two clients. His son and Kyle McLaren.

McLaren's new agent is Neil Abbott

Quote:
Roenick’s agent over the past two decades, Neil Abbott, was on the dais at the press conference, but had non-Roenick plans for the afternoon. Abbott also represents former Sharks defenseman Kyle McLaren and the two were getting together for lunch.

Abbott said McLaren hopes to return to the NHL next season and that talks are under way with three teams.

“We understand this is a reclamation project,” Abbott said. “This isn’t about dollars. It’s about the opportunity to play.”

I think they are more hoping for him to impress and show that he can play as the 7th d-man and be there in case of an injury. It gives Torts the ability to bnech someone if he wants to and if he would sign for league minimum it makes sense cap-wise. However wouldnt this put the Rangers at the 50 contract limit(if they decided to sign him)?

McLaren is a project, theres no way around that.

Why he failed his physical when he was going to be traded to the Flyers who knows.

He didnt play in the NHL all of last year, but hes not old by any means at 32...

Sather loves these projects, especially when they will come cheap considering the cap mess hes in. He can really throw the body and if he shows up in good shape i see no reason to believe the guy cant play bottom pairing minutes on this team while 2 or 3 rookies cut their teeth in and around his spot in the meantime for one year.

I've been saying all along they need a veteran blueliner in here, maybe its McLaren. He definitely has the size and "jam" Tortorella likes out of the backend. At one point the guy was a pretty darn good defenseman, and one that had the ability to shut down the opposition power forwards. We'll see. Its definitely worth a look though.

Aside from him being listed on the official camp roster (http://rangers.nhl.com/team/app/?ser...ticleid=497647) I haven't seen a press release or article.

I'll quote myself from the other thread concerning McLaren.

However, I'll remove the No thanks today, if he comes cheap, he'll be handy at least until the deadline or until a rookie can handle the job by himself. Let see first if he survives the first shift in camp...

Gigantic guy who played with Marc Staal briefly in Sudbury. never made the jump from juniors to pros. He was also at the development camp in June, so they must've seen something in him.

I don't think it's complete. Among the missing--Del Zotto, Grachev, Kundratek, Dowzak, Valentenko, Gaulton, Klassen, Chappell, Hillier, Zaborsky, Doyle, Kveton.

Valentenko and Kveton are probably not coming anywayway. All the rest of the above are signed except for Gaulton and maybe or maybe not Doyle.

yea he failed his physical to Philly but he has had more time to heel

At the very least I would sign him to a two way deal and have him in Hartford or as the 7th Dman on the big club. As long as he shows he has something left

Well, the roster posted above is taken directly from the official NYR page. So he's either signed or on an invite.
