That's a judgement made of the player we had three years ago. From I've seen of him the last two seasons he's grown quite a bit. I have no doubt Lupul will be fine on the left side, especially with either Getzlaf or Koivu as his center.

As for him seeing lesser opponents on the third line, I don't think that's right at all. If I'm the opposing coach and I see a line with Ebbett, Lupul and Marchant I'm putting a strong offensive line out there and taking advantage. I mean the getting Lupul gave us the opportunity to not just have two strong offensive lines but essentially two first lines. Lupul-Koivu-Selanne would be a first line on a lot of teams. Opponents would have a hell of a time matching up against us with lines like that.

It is, but it's one repeated by Philly fans too. He may be just fine at LW but that hasn't been the case so far.

Marchant-Ebbett-Lupul is not a weaker defensive line than Lupul-Koivu-Selanne.

Hell yeah it is. Remember the best defense is a good offense and the Lupul-Koivu-Selanne unit would spend way more time in the offensive zone than Marchant-Ebbett-Lupul. Ebbett is only effective in the offensive zone. He might be out weakest player in the defensive zone and that includes George Parros and Erik Christensen. He is a weak link to a line that can't create it's own offense. That line will spend all of it's time in their own zone and that's not happening.

I feel that when you get to the third line, the ice time isn't there.

Unless you're not playing the checking line at all, I don't see how Lupul can get 16 minutes.

Heh, our 3rd line used to lead our forwards in ice time.

Because the team actually had a 1a/1b setup, with the "3rd line" you are referring to being the defensive #1 line.

In fact 06-07 proves my point. Pahlsson, the leading TOI guy of his line, had 17:21 of ice time. Teemu (likewise leading his line) had 17:41. Getzlaf, the "3rd line" TOI leader had...15:03. And 1:29 was short-handed, likely something Lupul will get none of.

Now factor in that Getzlaf's line will is probably stronger than our 1st line of 07 (we probably want Getzlaf to get ~20 min a game). How is Lupul going to get 16 minutes if he's on the 3rd line? Although the fact that Pahlsson averaged 4:28 on the PK means there might be a little more ES and PP time to spread to other lines if (and only if) Carlyle does not play a checking line regularly.

Randy never plays a regular line on the Power Play the last 4 years, I dont see that happening now. He has traditionally gone with Teemu Getz Perry the last two years with Kuni/Ryan dropping off. So I dont see why he would keep the same first two lines 5v5 and 5v4 this year when he never has.

Maybe Randy will do Selanne-Getz-Ryan on the 1st PP, that way ryan and selanne can alternate in the left side of the slot for that one timer

I'd like to see Koivu getting lots of PP time as a playmaker, we need his passing abilities to feed scorers like Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne, Lupul etc.

And Marchant not on the 1st line PK... I think he has dyslexia with 1s and 2s.

No way does our leading goal scorer not have a spot a powerplay unit...

1st unit:
Perry-Selanne-Ryan
Getzlaf-S.Niedermayer

2nd unit:
EC-Koivu-Lupul
Whitney-Wiz

or

1st unit:
Perry/Ryan-Getzlaf-Selanne
Whitney-S.Niedermayer

2nd unit:
Perry/Ryan-Koivu-Lupul
Wiz-Emminger/Sbisa

Do the line numbers really matter? I was going for 1a 1b...

I was going for balanced PK lines... My first thought was Nokelainen-Marchant, but I thought Brown-Carter would be too weak and the first PK would have to play 75%... With Nokelainen-Carter and Brown-Marchant the players are from the same lines so it doesn´t screw up the ES and they can play the PK 50/50
