He requested the tryout and it was granted.

Here's the actual acceptance letter...

Dear Dan,

We have received your request and after careful consideration and a thorough background check on your career we are pleased to be able to extend to you an invitation to our player camp which commences on Sept. 15, 2009.

Sincerely,

A. Kuchar

Did he request that they use beachballs as pucks in camp too?

I read the article and got to the part where they say, "He has been bothered by a series of ailments ..." And all I can think is "... that include consistently letting in soft goals, being a malcontent, and all around general suckitude."

Good development move by the winged wheel. Get the confidence soaring for Helm & Abdelkader.

This tryout is all the result of a bet between Kuchar and Lidstrom that he can't do this again...

Hallucinogens are not good for you over the long haul.

Maybe he's trying out as a skater to make Detroit's 4th line?

Although, based on the way Osgood played last regular season, maybe Cloutier is right up their alley.

Why? He has no chance of actually making the team.

If Jimmy Howard is injured, Daniel Larsson is next in line. If Larsson goes down, Jordan Pearce is after him (or possibly Thomas McCollum, but I assume he'll be back in the OHL next season). He's basically #5 on the Wings goaltender depth chart. He might be able to crack GR's lineup, if he's lucky (depending on how well Pearce plays in camp, but I assume he would be Larsson's backup in GR next season either way).

Cloutier is being brought in to fill a roster spot for training camp. That's it. Unless some serious desperation unfolds (basically mass injuries to the rest of the goalies already in the system), there is no way he'll be on the Wings roster after September.

We should send a case of beach balls for Detroit to use in practice, of course with note: Compliments of LA Kings fans.

Article on Cloutier's tryout with and interview with Holland and there is also a tidbit about Jason Allison's tryout.

Holland:
Quote:
“I think it will be good for Jimmy Howard and Daniel Larsson,” Holland said. “I want to make them earn their spot.”

If he were to make the team would this have any bearing on his buyout?
