So with the start of the regular season exactly a month away and the players starting to slowly trickle back into their cities and camps set to open. I figured its time to start looking forward to the fantasy hockey season.
I have started up a Yahoo league with a couple of friends. Its a 12 team head to head league with an auto-draft and I'm looking to fill it out. It a just for fun league and has a mix of hardcore fans and guys who are more laid back but stay up to date on players and the league. I'm looking to fill in the remaining spots as of now I have 4 available. Send me a PM if interested and I'll let you know the ID and Password.
Others can feel free to post here as well to set up other leagues or fill openings. Maybe we could set up a board only league I for one would be interested in that if we had any interest from other members. Also if the mods wanted to sticky this we can just use this for all fantasy talk and questions we may get from other teams fans about the B's as we have in years past.

So as I mentioned in the first post would there be any interest in a HF Bruins board fantasy league. Think it would be fun to get a group of members together for bragging rights. I would be happy to set it up. I've run a couple of leagues on yahoo before. Let me know via posting here or PM and if the interest is there I'll set it up.

I'd love to get a board league going. Count me in for sure!
Okay would either of you two be interested in joining my other league as well I described it in the first post of the thread still looking to fill that one out as well. Shoot me a PM if your interested.
Also Ill go ahead and set up a league for the board and send each of you the info on how to join. I prefer a head to head league but am open to suggestions from the board. For example would we want a live draft or do you think auto-pick would be easier. What about roster size I have generally done leagues with 2C, 2LW, 2RW, 4D, 2G, 3Util, 2IR spots and a bench of 5 but again am open to suggestions. Also do we want to limit the number of teams or try to go for the max which is 20 on the yahoo leagues if we can get that far. Share your thoughts here as I can always tweak the options based on what the majority wants to do.

That way you have a full lineup with some wiggle room on the fourth line for guys not playing natural positions.
What stats were you planning on using? Once again my favorites (with reasons):
Skaters:
G
A
PPP
+/- (take the high scorer on the bad team, or lesser guy on the stronger team?)
PIM (balance getting scorers and tough guys)
FOW (makes the drafter think about centers more)
I don't like points as a stat because they lessen the effectiveness of G and A, so people don't bother as much looking for goal scorers and playmakers.
Goalies:
W
GAA
Save %
SHO
And live draft or die! But we'd have to get an email group started so we can pick a convenient time for at least most managers.

Well with the roster I was thinking that if we get a lot of interest from members we could just do a massive league with 20 users and I didn't want the rosters to be too large if that were the case.
For stats I have always had a lot of categories makes you focus on a deep team. For skaters it's been: G,A,P,PPG,PPA,PPP,SHG,SHA,SHP,+/-,PIM.
Personally I hate the FOW stat because it makes you focus too heavily and adds an extra importance to just the center position. I also like the P category cause it allows you to not focus on specialist and go for the well rounded player who on a real team are invaluable.
Stats for goalies I normally use are: GS,W,L,GAA,SV%,SHO.
I think having that many goalie categories adds some extra strategy to the games as you get later in the week.
I agree that the live draft is ideal however if we get a large group and have people spread out through so many different time zones it may be better to just do an auto-pick. It is just for fun anyway and my friends and I have found in the past that auto-pick drafts lead to more trades being made since you don't have direct control over the drafting which can be even more fun then doing the live draft.
This is just my opinion however once we get a group together we can talk it out and will obviously go with what the majority wants. I like to consider myself a commissioner of the people so I have no problem tweaking anything.

Also the info for the league for members of the board is
League ID# 102322
Password: Bruins
Ive set this league to the max members which is 20 and we will see how many we get as we get closer to the season. Also as mentioned before the draft and scoring categories could be changed later we will have a majority rules set up once the league is full. Just make sure you plan to be active the whole year before signing up please. Also if you sign up if you could just make your team name the same as your screen name here it will make it easier for us to communicate in the future thanks.

So this year I'm definitely looking to getting into some fantasy hockey. It's always interested me but I've always been too lazy to actually do it.
So I was wondering where you Fantasy Hockey fans play. What websites do you use? Some of my friends play through yahoo but I was just wondering if there is anything better out there? When do you usually start preparing?
For anyone I have sent the invite to for joining the league for the board. We will be doing a live draft for this league. Some people have said they didn't join because I had auto draft selected this was only because I wasn't sure how long it would take for it to fill up. Once the league is filled or we are a week away from the season starting whichever comes first I will pick a date and time that would work best for the majority of members. Most likely it would be a Mon or Tues night starting around 9-9:30 EST. So if that was keeping you from joining the info is:
League ID# 102322
Password: Bruins
I can't get into yahoo leagues, I have tried but I loose interest. I prefer to do more than slot players for the week or what ever is done.
Managing a team by signing contracts, drafting and trading is what I prefer. My last draft is as follows.
#39 Charles Olivier Roussel
#44 Jeremy Morin
#64 Ben Hanowski
#66 Jean Francois Berube
#74 Ryan Button
#134 Anders Lindback
#163 Anders Lee
#194 Marek Viedensky
I think my hockey season is based around the draft in both the NHL and Fantasy hockey.

Some Yahoo league only allow you to slot players in on a weekly basis. The league I have set up for the board allows for daily changes so you can constantly update to get the best roster every night based on who is playing that night. We will be doing a live draft for it and I'm sure with the knowledge of the members of the board that trade talks will be good.
Thoughts? I'm a bit concerned about my team personally... especially in net. Theres 14 teams, and the moron commissioner (yours truly) decided to make it a minimum of 3 games for goaltenders per week. So some ******* (maybe genius?) decided to draft a **** ton of goaltenders, so theres a good chance teams he play against don't reach the 3 start minimum and forfeit those categories. I never even thought someone would do that... so I'm stuck with 3 guys, 1 of whom is a backup, and 2 in goaltender battles. Kinda frustrating.
I have picked a date for our draft for the board league. It will be Mon Sept 21 at 9p.m. A bunch of people I had invited had expressed concerns over not having a draft date and whether they would be available to participate. This date will allow us to try and get the league as full as possible and still give us time for roster tweaking before the season starts.
The info for the league is again:
Yahoo League ID# 102322
Password: Bruins
When you sign up please make your team name the same as your user name here so that we know who you are it will allow us to not only communicate through the league but also here. Thanks in advance to anyone who signs up. Any questions feel free to either reply to the thread or just shoot me a PM.
I have 2 open spots in a (going into 3rd year) keeper league. It's a H2H league, lots of categories, so you don't win a matchup 1-0 you win or lose something like 7-2-1.
You can keep 8 players
The 2 teams are quite different in quality, so it's first come first serve for people who want a challenge.
Team 1: C.- Drury, Ribeiro, M.Koivu, Arnott, Laich
LW.- Wolski, Frolov, Parise
RW- Iginla, Hemsky, Okposo
D-Campbell is the only keeper worthy
G- Lundqvist, Quick, Leighton
So, as you can see, there are a handful of good players on this team. You don't have to keep 8, you can keep less and get draft picks in the keeper rounds.
So the league I'm running with some friends drafted last night here is what I got.
Center
RJ Umberger
Ryan Kesler
Mikhail Grabovski
Patrice Bergeron
RW
Blake Wheeler
Michael Ryder
Mark Recchi
Mikael Samuelsson
LW
Alex Ovechkin
Patrick Marleau
Chris Kunitz
Patrick O'Sullivan
Pierre-Marc Bouchard
D
Dion Phaneuf
Shea Webber
Nick Lidstrom
Brian Campbell
G
Tim Thomas
Steve Mason
Ty Conklin
Little concerned having that many B's I moved some players up the draft board but never expected to get that many. But I'm excited to say the least about my D and G positions. Any thoughts?

Not that impressed. You made the mistake of clearly homer drafting. Your Goaltending is awesome. I never draft that good of defenseman because it means you passes up much more production on offense. All in all I say you get into the playoffs on goaltendng but not much farther.

You have great goaltending and you should put up some really good plus/minus numbers. You'll need big years from Marleau and Kunitz to compete offensively every week, but your d-men can score and that should cover for some of the offensive deficiency. You'll make the playoffs, and who knows what could happen then. Nothing wrong with the homer picks either...Wheeler and Ryder should be 30-plus in the goal category and Recchi will put up somewhere around 50 points, maybe higher.
