They would be crazy to trade Bieksa, but what is funny is that last year Canucks fans couldn't express enough hate for the guy. All I read on this board was how bad he sucked, how stupid he was and that they couldn't stand him.

I was simply playing along with the threadstarter's question.

A better question is "why" will he sit tight?

Not if my diabolical plans come to fruition. Mua ha ha ha!

...er, I mean, yeah, that is so common as to be laughable. See how I laugh at the silly joke. Ha. Ha.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

I've given up on the idea of bringing in another blueliner before the season. That means a deal is imminent!

RE: Babchuk:

I know he put up some points and has a boomer from the point, but the guy was benched in the playoffs.

It was also noted from a poster who gave a great rundown of the situation in Carolina that he isn't all that connected to his 'mates...sounds too familiar to me.

If (big If) he does come to Columbus maybe a change of scenery will make him more connected

Babchuk still scares me. I'm willing to see whether or not Hitch can make a better player out of him, but I remain mildly terrified.

I think this is a very clear analysis from Vagrant on the main trade board:

I would say the ideal situation for Babchuk would be to get about 15-17 minutes per night on a 3rd pair somewhere with in excess of 3:30 per night on the powerplay. That way he can score his 12-15 goals and 25-35 points, stay in the positive in plus minus, and have a strong impact on your team.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "defensive liability", though other Hurricanes fans may and be justified, but he's certainly not going to be a player you want to see at even strength. He is decent positionally, blocks a great number of shots, and has a scorching slap shot but that is about all there is to the package. If you hide him well enough at even strength, he'll be a tremendous asset to your powerplay and give you a positive charge overall. If you expose him to quick and shifty skaters, he's going to get abused. He's not very laterally agile and he takes a long time to get to speed. He is also overwhelmingly passive in the physicality department, which is somewhat confusing considering his large frame and general disposition. Character concerns are highly overstated here, but he's not going to ever be a popular guy in any room. He's not the type to let you forget that he is playing for money.

In essence, there is nothing that Babchuk does in the defensive end of the ice that you couldn't get from your average bottom pairing defensive player. What he does bring is perhaps the hardest point shot in the eastern conference outside of Chara. With his breakout season last year, he was negated in the playoffs by teams playing point pressure against him so it may be better for his profile to be traded out West to avoid the scouting next season.

The price for his contract will likely be in the $1.5 to $2.0 million range per season depending upon how long you lock him up. His salary demands were never outrageous, only in line with his production increase. That is not the reason he is slated to be traded. He just did not fit with the general direction our team is trying to go.

Revisting the trade, Vancouver gave up 2 prospects, Hell I would have done that, Chimera, Picard, Hell Ill throw in a third.
Nope, and I don't expect there to be any substantial breaks on this front any time soon.

Check out the article in the Dispatch Sunday.

And potentially with baggage. I'd take him over Backman in a heartbeat, but then again, that's like saying I enjoy breathing on occasion.
