I think Phil Kessel is a lot better than Fabian Brunnstrom. So much better that Boston will find a way to keep Kessel rather than making a deal like this just for the sake of dumping salary.

Kessel is a far superior player, who is also much younger... Try Neal+.

Add two first round picks from Dallas.

Easily done as a Stars fan, but there's no way Boston touches this. First, the value isnt there, and 2nd, Brunnstrom's cap hit is $2.25 million, Im pretty sure Boston can't take that on anyways.

my rationale for this trade: it has become more clear (at least imo) that the bruins will be unable to resign kessel. bruins ship him off to a team with the cap space to sign him and get a young forward with a lot of potential back. brunnstrom's cap hit may be a problem for boston, but i know that dallas has their own internal budget so they cant just send picks and prospects.

Kessel scored seven more goals than Brunnstrom's entire point total.

He's also two years younger.

Your proposal will not work.

Its a huge problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Boston has no room whatsoever to add $2.25 million in salary.

As for Dallas' internal budget, you are correct there as well, although Tom Hicks has always said he has no problem going over budget for the right player. However that was in the past, when he wasnt in serious financial trouble, so it may not fit in this situation.

Doesn't happen for a number of reasons for both teams.

Boston is $1.7 million under the cap right now, so this deal would not work, and contrary to what many poster seem to think, the Bruins can trade someone else and then sign Kessel if that is what they decide they want to do. Chiarelli has said he will do exactly that if he has to, but I think Chiarelli has a dollar amount that he is not willing to go over when it comes to Kessel.

I have no real idea how this will end(Kessel situation), but I don't see them trading him for Brunnstrom when there is a rumor that the NY Rangers would offer up Callahan, Kreider, and a 1st round pick for Kessel. I am not even sure how true that rumor is, but it sure sounds like a heck of a better deal.

Another problem would be that it doesn't seem likely that Brunnstrom could unseat anyone in the Bruins top 9 right now, so essentially the Bruins would be trading a 1st line winger for a 4th line winger, and I do not think that is the appropriate place for Brunnstrom to play. You really have to ask yourself, would you do this trade if you were Boston? Taking draft picks or the rumored NYR deal seems like the far better trade or just trade someone else if Kessel's contract demands are not too out of line.

No harm in asking on the Stars part though.

Add a one and two zeros to that or Boston passes.
