Regardless of the fact that DL lied to Rich Hammond to get the deal done, at least that deal made sense.
That's because there is no logic. DL and TM simply are not that high on Frolov. So although, pretty much everyone on this board is a fan of Frolov, DL and TM...not so much.

Marleau for Frolov is even to me, Marleau is 2 years older but both are UFA's after the season. Marleau had a much better season last year. His 5 short handed goals stand out to me given what the Kings have been doing with players like Scuderi and Greene on defense. Marleau's 251 shots compared to 176 also get my interest since the Kings are pressed for goals. Havign a bunch of power forwards on your team means you need a lot of shots, the fancy stuff won't work. And most of all Marleau shows up with his lunch pail EVERY GAME. A leader, a former captain, 10 game winning goals last season-a definite Terry Murray type of player whereas Frolov just is not. And don't get me wrong, with Frolov's puck possession skills he fits into TM's system as well but the mental lapses and 2 shots on goal a game don't cut it from your 1st line LW. Bottom line is right now Patrick Marleau fits into what the Kings have been trying to do for some time now. They are getting hard nosed, gritty, leaders in the locker room and Frolov just doesn't fit into that mold as well as Marleau. I'd like to see an extension before the deal is done though, that 1 year and bolt worries me more than anything else in this proposed deal.
Damnit, you make some good points. I hate it when you do that.

Now lets look down the line. Marleau resigns for 3 years 18 million. That gives Schenn 4 years to develop and fill the 2nd line center. As it looks, Lewis will have the 4th line center to lose. Then when Handzus's contract is up he fills the 3rd line center.

2010-2011 possible cap numbers.
Marleau = 6 million 10-11
Frolov/Stoll = 7.5 - 8.5 million 10-11

The way DL works the Cap I am not the least worried about getting the young guys resigned.

I also wouldn't be suprised if Simmonds takes a run at the 2nd line wing postion if Frolov goes. He played his best hockey at the end of the season and showed some offense.
How about that gaping hole on the Left?

If anything, that saves Stoll's cap space for the young players you mention.
How do you know? Kessel had one great season and now wants $5 million. If either Purcell or Moller put up 25+ goals next season who knows what they will want.

Could be. Luckily Moller isn't RFA next year.

I know but Dean likes to look out 2+ years when he figures how the contracts will fit.

Which is why the only reason I think Dean sees this deal as acceptable is that he either knows or believes Marleau won't cost 6.3 next year.

You have to know he argues this as increasing his flexibility, and in reality, it does.

God forbid there should be a reason why they aren't high on Frolov.

If Dean knows for a fact that he can re-sign Marleau for cheap then you are correct. But I honestly do not think Dean is privy to that information.

Its not out of the question to think that Dean would request to talk to Marleau, and that the Sharks would grant this request.

TSN comes into the ring to deny the trade. Mckenzie FTW.

Becoming more and more relieved every second that passes.

Nice, but I have a feeling this isn't quite over.

I am just going to put up my walls of ignorance until the next scare - hopefully it is nothing stupid like trading Frolov or Stoll for a bag of magic beans. I am one of the few Kings fans that wants to keep Stoll and have him play second line center.

Assuming that Marleau will score at the same rate on the Kings as he did on the Sharks is a HUGE assumption.

I'd rather stick with the guy who proved he can score at that level on the Kings.

Re-sign Frolov and be done with all of this mess.

If DL pulls this off, I don't think there is a hole at left. He and the coaching staff would have to feel very good about Purcell/Simmonds/Moller filling that hole.

Gee - it's "Pronger for JMFJ II"

I'm away for the day and I come home to find a long thread with the entire board in an uproar over a bogus rumour. LOL

Be relieved, but Frolov is as good as gone.

Tony, in the past 5 seasons, is there anything the Kings management has done with which in foresight you haven't been "happy" or "thrilled"?

This rumor is dead as dinner... so goes the thread.

There's a link for discussion follow-up in our generic rumors thread.
