Demitra

Reports out of the Canucks camp is that they are in talks with Sundin. They want him signed before pre-season and would be willing to move Demitra to make room salary wise. I know our cap space right now doesn't permit us to take on his $4 mill. contract, but you number guys out there have any feasible formula to make this a possibility?!?!? I am a huge Dubi fan, but I am thinking this is the guy to center Gaby. Just an idea, so don't be ripping me a new one!

He just had shoulder surgery and likely won't be ready to go for the start of the season.

Demitra, like Richards, is payed at UFA market value. So trading for either would be a mistake.

Dubinsky:

23 yo (24 in Apr)
40 and 41 points last 2 years
53.6% on 870 faceoffs last year
251 hits (7th in league) last year
Cap hit .5-2.5 mil depending on length of contract

Demitra:

34 yo (35 in Nov)
54 and 53 points last 2 years
54.6% on 242 faceoffs last year
22 hits last year
Cap hit 4 mil

Why exactly would we trade for Demitra?

I would do it if it was something like a top 4 Dman plus Demitra for Rozsival, pick

J.P. Barry said Friday that the Swedish star is not in contract talks with any NHL team — and that includes the Vancouver Canucks, for who Sundin played last season.

Barry was reacting to a report that the Canucks and Sundin were “said to be in negotiations” on a one-year deal “in the neighbourhood” of US$2-million.

“There are no negotiations involving Mats with any team at the present,” Barry said.

A trade with the Canucks revolving around Demitra would have made sense before their trade with the Sharks, now that team has too many defensemen already on contract, unless we'd be dealing Rozy somewhere else and then making this move, which I doubt.

Probably a better chance the Rangers could sign Sundin then trying to acquire Demitra.

Please tell me you're not suggesting trading Dubinsky to acquire Demitra....please...

yeah I mean, if this was 2002, I'd be all for it. See the thing is, it's 2009, and he sucks.

The Rangers version of Demetria was Markus Naslund and the Rangers caught a huge break when he retired.

Whoa Whoa Whoa, I never once said I would trade Dubi for Demitra, holy cow, I was one of the few having a canary every time one of you Heatley lovers wanted Dubi out of town to bring in that spoiled rotten punk.
Demitra was a mere suggestion, while some of you are doubting Dubi's abilities to center our first line, what makes you guys think that Ani is going to be able to succeed centering our third line for a full season? But in the end why would you want to spend 4 mil. on a guy who can produce numbers, we rather have 2 mil locked up on Riss and Voros!

I definitely pick Voros/Rissmiller. At least one of Voros or Rissmiller will be in Hartford and out of sight and mind.

Demitra is Naslund, except more broken down. No thanks.

Whether or not you are trading Dubi to get Demitra is irrelevent. At this point in their careers, Demitra is not an upgrade from Dubinsky, so why trade for him?

Had assumed this was a thread about reuniting Slovaks but I didn't even see that mentioned. I watched the Demitra-Gaborik first reunion in Minnesota and it was a failure. Pavel is washed up. Nothing I saw last year would change that opinion.
