The Michael F'in Nylander Thread (Headed to Dynamo Minsk?)

Tarik reports that Nylander is the only player who hasn't arrived.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/cap...-check-in.html

But ESPN Insider reports that Nylander skipped a plane ride the Caps booked for him.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/features/rumors

Quote:
The Capitals booked a flight to Washington for Michael Nylander, but guess what? He hasn't shown up yet.
Don't 100% trust it, but if he really skipped a flight the team booked for him that's pretty interesting.

Sorry if this was posted somewhere else. Looked but didn't see it. Busy at work today.

If he shows up by tomorrow, then it can fade into obscurity, but if he holds out of camp, I figured Nylander might as well have his own thread.

Oh yeah definitely in favor of the new thread.

Maybe they booked a flight from his home in Sweden, but he'll actually be coming form Omsk...

Perhaps the flight the team booked for him was to Russia...

Hell, if he never comes back, he can have his own statue outside of the VC.

ESPN hockey reporting isn't quite on point these last few days...so we'll see how it plays out.

could all be part of the plan. he and GMGM reach an under the table deal to void his contract--he doesn't show up for camp, gets suspended, etc.--so we get out of it, but slip him some money to get it done. he then goes to russia or wherever and we all live happily ever after.

..And the Caps are found to be circumventing the CBA, and forfeit every game that Nylander doesn't play in.

It's only cheating if you get caught.

ok so 2 facts, 1) the Caps booked a flight for Nylander and 2) Tarik has not seen him at Kettler and he has not skated with the vets equals he didn't take the flight? Might be true, but not sure how the dots connect... and yeah, it's ESPN.

wait and see continues...

The flight booked for Nylander is probably a CBA requirement. Here is my latest guess on what is happening.

McPhee has a deal in place with Burke. That deal can't be done til the Kessel mess is cleaned up. If the Kessel deal falls the wrong way, then Nylander goes to the KHL.

We are still in wait and see mode.

I'd guess McPhee knows whether Nylander will be there tomorrow. Possible he doesn't but more than likely, they know whether he will report for the medical/other stuff on day 1 of camp.

And if he is not there, it is even possible he could have been asked to stay away with permission whether waiting for an NHL trade to materialize (yes, there is the NMC) or an assignment to the KHL.

addn: It doesn't make much if any sense for him to be practicing with the Caps players given the situation. I don't think anyone should be surprised that he hasn't been skating at Kettler with the group. There are other options for him to be skating before camp opens. If there is a possible trade in his future, perhaps he reports to clear the medical hurdles, etc., but if a trade did happen, the other team would want to run their own medical check anyway.

exactly.

on the plus side: this is a workout freak, so there is no chance he is sitting on his thumbs (provided he wants to keep playing hockey at some level of course)

i figured he would be here. If he didnt show I presume it would be easier for us to make this problem go away. And he wouldnt get paid. Doesnt it make sense for him to show up? Perhaps attendance in camp isnt contractual.

But nothing we do is ever easy. I am going all in that he is our opening day scratch. It would be great to see Bruce's face when he walks into the room. Cussing under his breath, facepalming.

Where are you hearing that about McPhee and Burke? And how would the Kessel deal being swung make room under the cap in Leafland?
