The 2009-2010 Lineup Thread

Training camp has begun and as reported @ Sportsnet Cammy and Gomez and what look likes Andrei Kostitsyn were on a line together!
http://www.sportsnet.ca/video/

I've also heard reports of Hamrlik and Spacek being ambivalent about the idea of playing RD (except for on the PP for Spacek)

So let us begin our lineup discussion for this year. Or rather continue it from the long summer. I'll start her off based on recent news.

Cammy - Gomez - A Kost
Pacioretty - Plecky - Gionta
Latendresse - Lapierre - S Kost
Moen - Chipchura - BGL

Markov - Mara
Hamrlik - Gorges
Spacek - Gill

Is Chipchura looking that bad that you would want to replace him with Met?

When has Chipchura ever looked better than Metropolit?

Metropolit is way more skilled, faster, and more experienced than Chipper.

Too bad for Chips, but Metro really gave us something to look forward to as far as we're talking about the prospect of having him pivoting our 4th (checking) line.

I personnally loved what I saw of him last year, he was one of the (very) few players who could get into the summer with his head up without feeling ashamed about the way he behaved on the ice in the playoffs. He's a good team guy, even ready to drop 'em when need is, and he's great on the PK.

I don't get all this hate for Metro.

Habs 2009-10 Waiver Situation

It's OK to have preferences and opinions but...

With 13 forwards having to clear waivers before joining the Bulldogs, it's obvious that the real question is will Sergei or Pacioretty win the 14th forward spot.
I doubt the Habs will give up on Chipchura, D'agostini, Stewart or others at the beginning of the season. There is also the possibility of a trade (To many left D, anyone) or there could be injuries, but for now, we got to make are line up with the players we have.

Failling to consider the waiver situation making your line-up is like failling to consider the salary cap when proposing a trade. It's common on other sites but here, it's pretty lame.

Please, I hope Jacques Martin will play Andrei Kost on the right side this season. He's a lot more comfortable on that side.

That's a good point. The same could be said about Cammi and Lats. Now the question will be do Gionta and D'agostini like to play off wing?

Hammer is that good, that he will double shift for Markov.

I think he will be, but he hasn't shown me anything on a consistent basis to prove it yet.

Metropolit has shown some grit las year, I think that he belongs somewhere on the line-up.... I like Chipchura, I just don't see where he could fit in.

My personal line-up:

Max Pacioretty-Scott Gomez-Brian Gionta
Mike Cammalleri-Tomas Plekanec-Andrei Kostitsyn
Travis Moen-Maxim Lapierre-Guillaume Latendresse
Gregory Stewart-Glen Metropolit-Georges Laraque.
extra - Chipchura, D'Agostini

I am intrigued by the idea of playing Pacioretty with Gomez and Gionta. I think the idea has serious potential and i'd give them a shot to start the year if Patches has a good camp.

The second line is pretty obvious.

Third line is an interesting combo. Not sure which one of Moen/Lats is better suited to play their off wing, but this combination could make for a pretty good 3rd line. Good size and skill.

My preference is for grit on the 4th line, so i'd give the edge to Stewart over say Dags or SK in that type of role.

Chipchura and D'Agostini are the extra forwards put i would swap them in fairly regularly on the 4th line depending on the opponent, injuries, etc.

Sergei K. is a victim of his waiver status and heads to Hamilton.

Andrei Markov-Paul Mara
Roman Hamrlik-Jaroslav Spacek
Hal Gill-Josh Gorges
extra - Ryan O'Byrne

Exactly what Martin has put together. Mara's size and skating ability should compliment Markov.

Hamrlik and Spacek will hopefully have good chemistry together. The big question here is which one of the two is better suited to play the right side.

Gill/Gorges is the 3rd pairing. Pretty solid 3rd pairing that wont provide much in the way of entertainment value but should help keep the puck out of our net.

O'Byrne is the #7, but is vulnerable. Hopefully he has a good camp because i think he has the tools, but could easily find himself traded out of town if Subban continues to shine.

As mentionned in 36 threads, several different combinations will be experienced this season. However, on day 1, I would like to see:

Cammalleri - Gomez - A.Kostitsyn
Latendresse - Pleckanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Lapierre - D'Agostini
Moen - Metropolit - D'Agostini

...taking into account S.Kostitsyn will be injuried on day 1.

Markov - Mara
Hamrlik - Gorges
Spacek - Gill

... three great combinations considering what we have. I however expect O'Byrne to be given a lot of chances... which will either hurt Gill or Hamrlik (I expect this last one to be traded if Weber and/or Subban show they belong to the NHL... which at least Weber do.

I'd rather see chipchura in a checking role on lapierre's wing instead of d'agostini's first clone.
