How many times does he have semi big names to big names going to popular teams ? How many times does he have grinders going from one small market to another small market ? He gets people's attention, he gets people's money. I feel bad for the saps who pay for that crap. Actually, I don't.
Well, you have to admit, it sure livens up the boards.

Surprised at all the negative comments here. Obviously I don't think it'll happen but I'd still take Sundin on a cheap 1-year deal. He wasn't great with Vancouver but then again, our centre depth isn't anything great either. Sundin would be good in the role Lang played last year.

Foppa, Sundin, Lang or...Plekanec?

One is young and wants to rebound. The other three are BIG question marks but could have huges upside.

Eklund is like Voldermort, "he who should not be named"...

And as far as having an inside track with the NHL, Maggie the monkey is more in tune with trade rumors than him!

The only reason I'd be somewhat interested is because of the lack of depth at center. Don't care much about his size, I'd be perfectly fine with a small center if he's a great player.

I think Bob will take his decision after camp to see whether or not we have youngsters ready enough to come help us out in case of injuries.

OMG,no i wouldn't touch Sundin for over 1.5 mill, as stated in my OP.

Would you consider 2 or maybe 3mil if Sundin were willing to come to camp within the next week or so?

No it's ok, Eklund threads are a good way for me to get the old heart pumping. Think of them as a way to keep me in good health.

First of all, where does Sundin fit in our cap situation? We only have around 2.75 Million left, and I about Sundin is going to sign for under 3 Million a season. Plus, if that is the case of him not wanting to sign for less than 3 Million, that means we need to move someone, which I would not do for Sundin at this time.

I think Gainey got ****** around enough by Sundin last summer to start talks with him again.

So please no more Sundin to Montreal rumors. Sundin : "I need to visit a Tibetan monk at the top of the Himalayas to advise me on returning to the NHL... after that, if my wise monk says I should return, I will need to decide which team I will play for (monk can't advise him on that since he cannot name one NHL team)... which should take 6 months of weekly updates by my agent and Eklund before I finally sign a contract."

No need for this crap.

Quote from Eklund : "It has been bubbling under the surface for quite some time among the inner circles of the rumor mill"... what the hell does that mean? Where is this "inner circle of the rumor mill"? Sounds like they all meet in a castle wearing hoodies, deciphering trade rumors from the entrails of a slaughtered goat". Ridiculous.

If Sundin was in top shape and could show up next week i would be willing to go up to 2mill., if it worked out we might have to find a way out for Pleky. If not i was listening to Marinaro this morning talking about giving up Pleks and a left D for a good 2nd line center, no names were mentioned, but it would give us a place to put one of our young right D's in the formation.

Plus one is 6 foot 4 and that should never be brushed away.

One is 6'3 and worked last year well with the team. He would come cheaper than the 6'4 and over a full season last year with pro-rated statistics out produced the 6'4 player as well.

Don't knock 'til you've tried it.

Hard to say no to a player of that caliber, but the way Sundin kept the habs dangling for months last year must not have left a very good impression on Bob Gainey. IF (a big IF) BG bites, I'm guessing he'll call Sundin's agent with "we offer 2 M $ (for example) : yes or no, right now!"

Yes, I'd take him for 2 million per easily.

He solves the captain issue or lack thereof, he can still put points on the board and he adds some size down the middle that we still need. It's a no brainer.

It amazes me that people will jump at the chance last year to pay him $6-8 million per and this year snub the guy at 0.25 cents on the dollar.

Makes no sense whatsoever. Fickle fans.

I'd take Sundin on a 1 year deal (i doubt he would sign for more than that anyway.)

No he didn't have his best year with the Canucks last season but let's not forget that he had no camp and signed with them at the mid season. At his age it's harder to pick up the tempo in these conditions.

Sundin would add a dimension that is sorely lacking to the team. His presence in the middle would have an immediate impact and that even if he doesn't produce at a PPG. I'd be happy with 30 goals/60-65pts and all the other intangibles he brings (leadership , size , faceoffs ect).

Can't we discuss it without some of you tripping over yourelves to see who's the first one to come out with another BAN EKLUND reply???

I for one, as well as some other Habs fans have thought about this possibility since July 1st ... couldn't care if it's a rumor or not ...... it's just hockey talk!
