As Dubinsky remains unsigned, so too does Dominic Moore, who overplayed his hand last year in rejecting a lucrative multi-year extension from the Maple Leafs. Sather has had conversations with Moore, and does have some level of interest in the one-time Blueshirt who is coming off a 45-point (13-32) year.
But if Moore is signed, it would be to fill the role as either the third- or fourth-line center, not as a potential replacement for Dubinsky.
I really thought this was a joke or, at very least, fans latching on to a former favorite, until Brooks' report. Color me shocked that there's actually something to this.
We all "like" Dom, but we also all know Dom. Bringing him in under the guise that he's going to center the top line is beyond ridiculous. It's not a situation you willingly put yourself in, especially with the other options you've already got under contract.
it doesn't look like dubinsky is getting done and i'd rather see moore play center than prospal, who is much better suited as a winger.
You'd rather have a 3rd line forward play at the #1 pivot then a 2nd line forward play at the #1 pivot?
That doesn't make any sense at all.
Moore is no better a center then Prospal, as neither are great centers. Moore's best play is often using his speed to streak down the boards. He's got great speed, but lacks the on ice awareness and playmaking to use his wingers as an effective playmaker, thus making him better as a guy relying on someone else to do the puck carrying and distribution. In his own end, he's pretty decent as his speed works well to get back and get into position. It also takes smarts to be a defensive player and he's obviously not dumb. Prospal is a much better distribution guy and hence, IMO, better equipped to be a center. Additionally, Prospal's overall talent is higher than Moore's.
The Rangers don't need another nonphysical third line player with good speed. No thanks to Moore.
