Ho well That was a great night...finally hockey his back, here's wath i Noticed from the players tonight!

O'BYRNE: The guy really hits stronger than last years, but doesn't only look to hit...
Still Shaky a little with the puck...easy to bring into the corners instead
of using the center of the ice to get a better play option. Still better
than last year.

SPACEK: Was really impressed with the markov/spacek duo on the PP, they will be good
togheter. He has a great first pass and good passing abilities, good shoot but
not as hard as i thought it would. Doesn't seem in full mode yet.

Cammalleri: This guy can Score - Deke - Pass - Skate and check. He is a full package.
If he plays like this all season long, he his up for another 80pts for sure.

GEORGES: Very good defensive play, but looks really less temted to go ahead for
a little offence. Could have got a puck deeper a couple times but backed
up to not get caugh...even if he had plenty of time...Should get back on
track for the season.

Sanford: Well...limit 2nd goalie...Would have been destroyed by a food and full line-up
of regular NHL'er. BAD outsidfe the net...

PRICE: Back to good habits. No more *down on knees before the shot* thing...
Look really relaxe...but still only 1 period and 9 shots...we'll see.

D'agostini: Really stronger than last year. Better strides and Still has Great shot.
Even though he's not the best defensively...the guy was flying all over the
ice getting and creating nice chances.

Lapierre: Still the Pest he was, will have another good season, Same Shyt different day.

Benoit: Well wasn't bad. Could be a OK call-up for 7th D spot...but still, you see why
he plays AHL.

Kostitsyn: Even though he had some great shift, he really looked like he doesn't care...
Waiting there for the puck to come to him instead of going to get it...
Couple of good checks too...he has to wake up big time for intensity

Darche: WHO? completly out of place...Limit AHL...first cut goodbye

White: Well kinda invisible...ran into Carey price in the first period. Had a great shift
right after, than disapeared. Another Year in AHL minimum

Desharnais: The guy has great hands. Lots of offensive upside. BUT...5f6...gets pushed
away from the puck so easily...too bad he would have been real good
if he had had the size.

Trotter: Didn't play much but has great passing abilities. Good forechecker. noting else

Johansson: God, is this guy supposed to be any good? He's allright in the defensive
zone, But generate 0 offense, and screw offensice chances...a BIG NO

Stewart: Heart guy. Hit everything, gives all he has every shift. Perfect 4th liner.

SUBBAN: This youngster has talent. AMAZING slapper, good passing, wants to do
to much though...calm down your not a forward. But is really not ready to
come into the big league...He will profit from that full year in AHL.

Markov: Nothing to say...good old markov. What you see is what you get.

Latendresse: Back to HITTING HARD! Created some good offense. Really forechecking
well with lapierre. Really good duo although Guy can't really develop
his offense with lapierre...this guy isnt good enough for latendresse.

Gomez: Skate really fast...REALLY good playmaker/Passer. Started really strong but
slowed down during the game. Doesn't look in full mode either. 1-2 games still.

Well that was it...My opinion oonly!

»Thank you hockey is back!

Flames fan here, saw nice plays by Squid. Sad he had to go. He will do great in Montreal. He's always been PPG, might do better for the Habs. He would make a great captain for the Habs except he doesn't speak french

Yes, that's what we keep saying. He will never be a PPG player if he doesn't speak french

i went to the game. i don t know about a couple of comments on here about spacek. he was alright on even strength but he was entirely inefficient on the pp. we got him to shoot (souray, streit, schneider...). he took one shot on the pp and the entire unit was putrid.

in fact, on the 5 on 3 late in the third spacek was benched. cammalleri was on the right point. d'agostiny too his spot on lw.

At the game...

Lats - what can i say, once again proving that he's a preseason MONSTER. Now only if he can hit a target when the regular season starts. Needless to say, Lats is definitely proving to be that power forward who can score 40 (if Preseason was all year long / or in hamilton).

A.K - Is it me or could it be possible that he's blind in one eye? He always looks clumsy with the puck once in the offensive zone... seems to wait a bit too long, and once he does make a pass, it's too hard and over the stick. With that said, his job should be to shoot and only shoot. 35 -40 is possible with Gomez.

P.K - There will be a statue of this kid in front of the bell center one day

Obyrne - He can hit harder than komisarek. Although Komi is a puck eater, I think Obyrne has way more upside offensively (duh) and can make a tape to tape pass.

Just curious, where did this whole "squid" nickname got started?

I also second "Mushroom" as Spacek's new nickname

Space goat I say should be Spacek's name.

I honestly thought the Space Goat thread was about him, because I heard somewhere, or made it up, but I swear Spacek had the nickname Space man with some team.

Wow Team A was impressive. I guess Team B will be a lot weaker.

Got back from the game and some notes :

Gomez: Amazing vision, a faster version of Ribeiro.

Cammalleri: Had a very good game, has great offensive tools. Well actually that first line was dominating.

Sanford: Though he let 2 goals in, I definitely think he can backup in the NHL. Kept our lead when we left him out to dry.

O'Byrne: Improvement. Way more stable + a good fight.

P.K. : Seemed like a fan favourite already, there were P.K P.K P.K chants all night long. He is gonna be very good.

D'Agostini : WOW. Most improved player from what I saw tonight. His shot is actually even more dangerous than last year. Got 3-4 good scoring chances with that shot.

Yeah, after MaxPac and Weber I guess there's S.Kost and Hammer... who can be considered "balanced" or "2-way" at best in terms of offense. Oh well, gotta look for those other things in pre-season as well, I guess.

I can't wait to see tonight the Pleks line. I am really hoping that it shows it's a good 2 line with lots of offence. The reason? What I saw last night was a real up-tic in team speed both from the Gomez line and the defence corp. I know which players will be on the main team and it's exactly those players that showed the up-tic. I know Pleks is really fast and if Gionta and Patches can keep up to Pleks tonight and can show big danger WOW. that would be 2 super fast lines ( small but superfast)
Last night gave me a glimps of what this team will be known for and it's team identity.

Wow, this is really funny. So you think after 2 periods of pre season hockey JM benched his #2 D huh ?

I hope you noticed that the late 2nd and most of the 3rd was to test out the rookies. Even the guys on CJAD noticed that. Cammalleri, Gomez, A.K, only got maybe 2-3 shifts.

Granted it was only from the RIS feed, with an objective of evaluating the younger talent (Benoit is not young- 26 yo) I agree with these two the most.

But does Benoit really have any chance? or is he going to go back to Europe if he does not get an NHL tryout?

It could've been that he was benched, but it seemed like JM wanted to try Cammy (Squid) on the point.

PS: I also don't understand why Martin didn't play Subban on the Powerplay at all. I guess he didn't get the memo that says that PK does not stand for Penalty Killer.

Just a few observations from game last night, 316 section.

I loved what I saw from Gomez and Cammy. I was relieved when it was them & Spacek who scored the first goal, that's a hell of a monkey to get off your back in the first game.

Not sure what happened to A. Kostitsyn. He took a hit really early in the game and it looked like his wrist was injured. He came back after being hunched over on the bench for a few minutes. Unfortunately, he was almost invisible for the rest of the game, barring the one pass to Cammy.

Something just wasn't right with Kostitsyn after he almost got injured. He looked so disinterested, he was the slowest on the line and was unable to protect the puck when pressured. Hopefully tonight was the bump in the road and not the status quo. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Martin will be able to do with him.

Gomez and Markov already look like they've been playing together for a year. There was a lot of good passing between the two. I feel like we'll be seeing even crisper and more skilled passing as the year rolls on and the trust between them grows

Price, while not having a lot of work, was technically sound. You can really tell he was focused last night. He controlled any rebounds he gave, directing them into the corners.

I'll bet O'Byrne never thought he'd hear the crowd chanting his name so loud lol. I hope he's realized what this crowd expects from him: big hits and the occasional fight. He still looked really nervous with the puck, but he settled down as the game progressed.

Can't wait to see the other half tonight!

Sorry if this was brought up before but who was wearing the As tonight? Was it Gomez, Cammy and Markov? Thanks!
