Any guesses to the lineup? Will this be a completely different group of players?

You think Trotz is going to be trying to let Hammer and Klein work on their chemistry rather than splitting the vets (which Klein qualifies as) to work with the rookies, like he split Weber and Suter last night?

I was expecting maybe Hamhuis/Blum and Klein/Laakso.

Oh, and we won't get stomped. Judging by the outpouring of support for Blum by those who have seen a lot of his games (in the Kessel threads) about his chances to be an elite NHL defender. With his hockey sense, hands, shutdown defense, and powerful shot, he's going to smother that top line whenever they cross mid ice, fire home a couple power play goals, then go cure cancer.

Well, this should be a tougher test than the Atlanta game, especially on the Predators D. I hope the young guys don't embarrass themselves against Staal and others.

It's entirely possible. I wouldn't necessarily agree with that strategy, but he's the one who has to set up the line combos. Maurice kept his top two defenders (Gleason and Corvo) together for tonight's game, for what that's worth.

I just want Blum to get off to a good start, and with Hammer he would have a better chance. Hamhuis makes some sense because that could be a spot he could actually win sometime this year so let them play and see how it works tonight.

Klein and Laakso would also be interesting. As Laakso sounds more physical than Klein. See if Klein can do enough of the puck moving and offense.

Who has the fifth defensive spot already nailed down?

Crispy just said in his mind we have one spot available in the top six. "One spot" he repeated. But either I missed it or he never said who the first five in his opinion are. Blum the fith? He mentioned wanting to get another good look at Laakso, so I assumed that meant Laakso is fighting for the sixth spot.

Hmm. Now he just indicated Sulzer was his fifth... Interesting...

Sulzer is on a one-way contract and also has to clear waivers going down. It's possible that he ends up our 7th defender, though.

Glad Callahan is calling the game from the get-go tonight.

Good call. Beat me to it as I added that his later comments seemed to indicate Sulzer was grouped with Weber, Klein, Suter, and Hamhuis and then he siad it'd be fun watching the battle for the club between Blum, Laakso, Franson, and Thurreson (sp)

Surprised me. Before camp I was saying Sulzer, Sulzer for sure, but then figured reality was more like he was just in the mix. Makes sense that we sort of have to keep/hide him if he'd have to clear waivers.

Hi, wow i was surprised to see laakso on the line-up, i've totally forgaten that guy, does anyone know if there is any chance that he makes the team. I just checked that he has put on some weight and he is a solid 2-way D that has a hard shot. Any info on how he has been doing in the camp?

He's a front-runner for a roster spot.

Laakso was just out there with Sulzer while the Legwand line was on the ice. Got some pressure, Laakso kept one in the zone.

Klein fails to clear the zone on the powerplay and they score.

WHOOOT! Wrister by Santorelli! GOAL!

Hearing good things from that line. Erat hit the post right at the start. Good pressure.
