I'm sure if Billy Mays were still around, he'd have thrown in an extra one ABSOLUTELY FREE.

Because of our depth at the forward position. The same cannot be said about our depth at defense, especially of the offensive variety.

We've seen this kid play a few games now. I like the looks of him. Seems like he has the chance of making it to the big show in the next few years as a bottom pair d-man.

Great signing by Gillis.

Amen to that. I thought he was better then some people said of him during his training camp, he looked good during his 2 pre season games, of course, hes Not NHL ready, he looked real good on the the power play last night, he's confident with the puck, poise, his skating needs to improve, but you know, so does Hodgson, and the SEdins were not great skaters too when they were 21 years old. Very good fine for Gillis.

I am very impressed with Oberg's offensive instincts and in general, his game from the offensive blue line in. In addition to being a solid point presence, he thinks the offensive side of the game very well and makes some very solid plays. His first pass is also very good.

At this stage in his career (not unexpected) his defensive game needs quite a bit of work. He seems to have a lot of trouble with even the slightest amount of the speed off the rush and gets beat wide fairly easily. I am very encouraged that he will be playing for the Moose and under a very solid coaching staff who should be able to turn around and develop that part of his game. If it happens, and his offensive game matures with age, I can see him being a very solid top 4 defenceman in Vancouver in a few years.

Great signing by Gillis.

Agreed - he's been looking great.

Obviously has the offensive instincts we're looking for and is an above-average skater. Still needs to bulk up a bit to deal with defensive coverage down low (he got out-muscled a few times against the Ducks), but does keep his head up and seems to see the ice well; nice pinch on Bernier's goal.

Good job, scouts.

He's been OK but I haven't exactly been blown away. Surprised at the rave reviews he's been getting.

He looks pretty good with the puck on his stick, and in the offensive zone. Seems like a smart player with good instincts. Skates pretty well but not great.

But he's been absolutely ventilated defensively in both games he's played. Needs a *ton* of work defending against the rush, and has been exposed almost every time a player has come at him with any speed at all. Looks smaller than listed, as well, and doesn't exactly have a ton of grit.

Now, of course playing against pros is a big step up and if he's a smart player he should be able to adjust over the season in Manitoba. But this player looks a *long* way from the NHL to me, right now.

Decent signing, but I wouldn't call it anything resembling a 'great' signing, yet.

I agree with this pretty much to a T. I think he is at least 3 or so years away. That said, I am really impressed with his offensive skills that can not be taught. And, like you said, I see that he seems like a very smart player and I almost expect him to adapt. I also fully expect the coaches in Manitoba to greatly improve his defensive positioning and coverage off the rush.

I guess I said it was a great signing due to the fact that he is still young and I fully expect him to develop into a player based on what he has shown.

He's not the second coming of Lidstrom or anything, but, considering our defensive prospect depth is so poor, grabbing a guy for nothing who looks like he could be a decent NHLer in a year or two is grounds for giddiness.

Oh I'd definitely agree with all this for sure. He has some notable holes in his game, but nothing we can't really alter with a good training regime, and some coaching. Hopefully we can turn him into a top-six PP type player who isn't a total train wreck defensively.

I'd say that getting a kid who could be a NHL regular in a couple years for absolutely nothing is a very good thing.

He's not ready yet but he doesn't look completely out of place out there.

The Canucks need more like him - currently the pipeline is a little dry.
