This was just posted on the TO board:

I'd do that. Dubinsky is being a ****** and the Leafs 1st will be a top 15 pick. At the draft, we package our 1st, the Leafs 1st, and McDonagh for a top 5 pick and get a stud

Edit: Nevermind, just saw that it's already a done deal.

On Dreger's twitter

"TSN reporting Kessel traded to the Leafs, conditional to contract agreement."

Good. Nice player but too damn expensive at the moment. I'd rather keep Dubinsky (knock on wood) for another 2 years at around 1 million than Kessel @ 5

So Burkie is going to pay $4.5-$5 million per(cap hit)for a player with no arbitration rights and his buddy Slats talks about leverage(which he has for only 1 season)on his group II.

Completely disingenuous comment, RB. Burke is looking to acquire a player he otherwise didn't control. Not at all comparable. If the Rangers trade Dubi to someone who desperately wants him, you can draw the parallel to that team... And Toronto. In such a case, the Rangers would be comparable to BOSTON. As it stands, with no deal in the works, they're not comparable to either.

36 goals trumps leverage.

5 year deal for $27M. $5.4M per year. Ouch.

Boston gets Toronto's 1st and 2nd in 2010, and 1st in 2011.

Ouch to Toronto....weren't they a rebuilding team? There's no denying Kessel's talent but TWO 1sts AND a 2nd??!

The offer sheet compensation for that deal would have been "only" a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. And I doubt Boston really would have matched this.

Wow that's a great deal for Boston.

Burke is pretty stupid to make that deal.

A rebuilding team, and he gave up TWO firsts AND a second.

Kessel is good, he's not THAT good.

The 2011 draft is looking like it could be the worst since 1999.

Also, there is no guarantee that the Leafs picks will be in the top-10. Outside of that realm, you're unlikely to get a player of Kessel's caliber.

Boston better make sure their scouting department is as good as it can be if they want to maximize the return.

Agreed.

IF you are going to give up 2 1sts and a second , you might as well throw in a good player and prospect and go for Kovalchuk. Get him signed and you have yourself a 50goal scorer, which you wouldn't be able to draft in the middle of the first round.

Plus, Kovy would have been 3-4 million more, but you're getting a proven 50 goal scorer, great team guy, and no history of past injuries.

Yikes, that's alot to give up for a team that is rebuilding.

Next destination: Maple Leafs boards for ***** and giggles and a large doze of homerism.

Boston now has 2 first round picks and an extra second in this draft. They could also trade those on draft day and move up for a possible top 5 pick.
