Ugh. Can you imagine Blum and Franson playing together in Milwaukee? Just... ugh.

A few observations tonight before the next GDT goes up...

-The knock on Dekanich for a long time has been his rebound control. It really sounds like we're going to have another Dan Ellis on our hands with him, and I don't necessarily mean that as a compliment. Hopefully he can start hanging on to pucks and we can bring him up with some confidence behind Rinne next year.

-Laakso and Sulzer led the team in shorthanded ice time by an enormous margin, and neither was out there for a goal against. The coaching staff are clearly high on both players, and I think Laakso is now a lock for the roster. Whether he'll play with Sulzer or Hamhuis is tough to say. I think Sulzer may be the most underrated of our defensive group simply because he's been quiet on the score sheet.

-I really admire Hörnqvist's desire to shoot the puck, but put it somewhere other than the goalie's chest, and get some zip on it. It doesn't look like he'll amount to too much in the NHL after all.

-I don't think I heard Jessiman's named called once all night. Why did we give him a contract again?

-I really feel concerned about Klein after hearing Callahan call that second goal. I still have nightmares about his fit of cranial-rectal inversion that cost us a playoff spot against Minnesota last year...

Sounded like Santorelli fit well with Legwand and Erat. It seemed like that line was out there the whole night.

I dont get it, Crispy and The Professor keep singing Hornqvist's praises but I gave up on him around game 30 of last year and I havent seen anything this preseason to win me back.

Whenever Hornqvist skates past someone and flips a weak shot toward the the goalie, Crispy calls it a "scoring chance".

He called many scoring chances for Hornqvist last night, so I was excited, until I remembered Crisp is always talking about Hornqvist scoring chances. But I don't recall all that many goals.

If that happens, I hope they don't play them together, other than the PP.

as I pointed out a while back, last season we didn't have a single forward with more than 200 shots. Hornqvist has 13 in two games. Not every shot can be a big time scoring chance, but if you continually put the puck on net, things will happen for you. I applaud his effort, and I've been much more impressed with him this year than last.

on a side note, I asked Carolina fans what they thought of Santorelli-- if he was a product of playing with Erat and Legwand, created his own offense, etc...

The reviews were good. They warn against getting too excited over preseason success(something I think we're all in tune with,) but they did say he was all over the place, and his goal was off a nice shot through a screen, perfectly placed.

Why? It's not like Blum is weak defensively.

Blum and Franson have played together before in Vancouver and wouldn't be a bad pairing in Milwaukee. I just really want to see Blum here. Blum is really good.

I'm getting to the point where I want to see one of our vaunted prospects beat out Klein, or push Klein to new heights.

I'd hate to see them move Blum back down because of contracts if he would otherwise have earned a spot. So far the competition has been good for all of them though, as a couple of them have said, they're pushing each other and trying to improve.

I'd rather see Blum here than Franson, and maybe even Sulzer.

Can you expect Franson to be the #7 defenseman simply because of the disapointment?

I like hearing that Santorelli has an accurate shot and quick release.

On Hornqvist, he has shot a lot. And nobody ever faults his energy. What gets me is when he gets a chance, so often it seems the puck heads up ice the other way. When Leggy or Erat or Arnott or Sully shoot we get more to follow. I don't know what is is about Hornqvist's style Maybe he's just often creating something on his own and is ahead of his linemates. But I listen on the radio and I'll hear "Hornqvist drives in, SHOOTS!!! Now, here's so-and-so bringing it up ice back into the Predators end..."

I want someone who can help a line sustain pressure or able to be back on defense quickly.. With Hornqvist I always feel like he's going to be hustling to catch back up as the play heads up ice.

And playing with Franson will give him plenty of opportunities to prove it...

It just seems to me like pairing Blum with a guy like that won't let him develop all areas of his game as much. He will spend most of his time covering for Fransons mistakes, defending against odd man rushes etc.

Not if you shoot it into the goalie's chest every time.
