Williams was an expensive depth player for sure, but there was a reason why we needed him. Let's all hope Chimera, Modin, Brassard, and Torres stay injury free.
What's funny is that some people are saying we couldn't "afford" Williams, or that he is somehow not good enough to play on our team -in our system, for our coach. Yet the lowly Red Things had NO TROUBLE WHATSOEVER signing him. When will Detroit ever learn
hahaha, just another example of 'seeing what we want to see'.
lol, this debate is still going on? I'm over it.
I wanted him back because we finally had some dependable secondary scoring. Not because of his (in)ability to play center (he can play some in an emergency) or for his stellar defensive play.
I'm expecting more of the same on the injury front.
But with Brass and Filatov on the team this season, doesn't that more than make up for Jwill being let go?
Brass would be Manny's replacement on the top 6. Filatov, who knows where he is going to play, how much, and ultimately how much he is going to produce.
So. You've got me. You're guess is as good as mine if they'll make up for his secondary scoring.
Brass is a bit more of a replacement for Manny as far as scoring goes, if his 35 games last season is a good indicator.
Wasn't the point.
In your scenerio, you were putting in two players to replace one. Brass shouldn't even count in that discussion, as you're comparing apple to oranges. At the very least it should be 2 to 2 (Brass/Filatov .vs. Williams/Manny).
The real question is whether Filatov can replace the secondary scoring of Williams. We need more goal scoring, not a push.
More talented? Sure. More productive? Time will tell.
Different thread...meh...the guy said 'let's go' so I went
I would have liked to have him back to a degree too, but unfortunately our circumstances just don't support it.
We have a real problem on the back end. One injury and we are that close to being non-competitive. Nick Holden, I love ya, but I don't want to be relying on ya!

The priority to be sure. There's a few teams out there with players we might be able to grab. If we're willing to spend. Not sure we are, unless it's the perfect player.
I've resigned myself to testing our depth from the 'Cuse. Anything else will be a surprise. At least, before, we had Rome and/or Methot down there. I don't know how close any of these guys are.
So, we have the worst PP in the league - by a LONG way, and we could not find a way to use JWill? He goes to Detroit with the BEST PP in the league and is on the point for the #2 PP unit.

HAD the best pp in the league and we HAD the worst pp in the league--let's see where the chips fall THIS year before we start wishing for JWilly back.
We had Williams on the point back last year and I do recall several pucks getting by him to allow for some pretty juicy shorthanded attempts for us. Let's hope he keeps it up!
