Last night was his only game so far, and I think he looked pretty poor, but he'll definitely have another shot or two.

IMO, Carle was better than him last night. Either way, both are starting the year in Hamilton.

Didn't impressed me! Both were below average IMO!

I thought Belle looked better than Carle Webber or Subban from what I have seen. Subban needs seasoning in Hamilton for a year but has the most upside.

Perhaps I'm in the minority but I thought Weber looked good last night. Our defense as a whole was pretty average; no real standout performances (good or bad IMO) but I thought Weber was potentially the best of the night, which isn't saying that much, heh

None of our dmen have looked that great but the best was carle and belle so far. I'll give weber and subban another year in the ahl before they make the NHL maybe even 2, theres no need to rush them and ruin their development

He was below average to me. For an offensive D, he didn't have a shot in his 18 minutes of playing, even when the team wakes up in the 3rd. You could see that he was nervous and got pushed around easily by any Ottawa forward. He had some good passing on the PP, but some of his puck handling caused Ottawa to get out of their zones. Bad game for him, I was disappointed.

I thought that Belle looked horrible last night. Give away after give away....
I thought that Carle looked OK as he had nice poise with the puck.
Weber looked like he was a bit rushed throughout the game.

i found weber was very sound defensively had a couple of takeaways and played the man well
He couldnt dazzle us with offensive skills last night as it was not that open a game

Belle to me was hard to watch. Turn over after turn over and was really shaky. Couldnt clear the puck at all same as Henry

from last night's game, weber impressed me defensively because he seems to have improved quite a bit in that department. carle was the best, good passer and confident with the puck. belle's got the physique for the job, showed that, but he's got a low ceiling in the hockey sense department. gill used his stick/reach well but made a pretty bad giveaway. henry was ordinary. mara showed he can shoot the puck and use his body but i expected a little more.

The question is: which D line played against Alfredo/Speedo/Michaelangelo?

I tought he was geting rid of the puck too fast! Players with his skills should be making first good passes!

We had enough players puting puck on the board last night!

He did not impress me!

Hah, this is the worst consensus on our young defensemen... the poor OP was probably hoping for less divisive opinions than this!

EDIT: And I should clarify that no, I wasn't impressed with his offensive game, but I thought he was very apt in our zone and did a good job defensively, especially considering his size. In no way would I equate him to Markov, he just handled players well in the way that Markov does, not through thunderous checks but through angling and body position.

I thought he was good, made some nice plays in the D zone separating the forwards from the puck by using his body. Then again, for me Belle was good too after a shaky first period.

Wasn't impress by neither of Carle and Weber last night. Not that they were totally bad, but you need to impress in camps, and they didn't. They are buying themselves some tickets to Hamilton...well to Scotland, lucky them.

Strangely, the D that I liked the most as far as the non-regular ones since the start of those preseason games is Benoit. Not saying he would make it though but he deserves a few more starts.

He played well defensively. Wasn't a liability (which I cannot say for O'Byrne). Offensively he disappointed.

He didnt do anything offensively, but he never really had the chance to use his shots either... When he had the puck he had the blade by the board and one forward on him.

Defensively he's been very good, noone cared when I said he was more reliable defensively and people say he is and last night he may have been our most reliable guy back there.

we know he has a canon and we know he has offensive skill

what we didnt know was how his defensive game developped
and we found out.
He can hit well for a little guy cause he's solid but doesnt have to because he positions himself great and is able to strip players of the puck.

after last nights game he's ahead of obyrne in the depth chart

It's his job to lose. He's a righty and that is rare. It's going to be between him and O'Byrne for the last spot on D.

Seriously, he started the game paired with Mara (finished with Gill?) and looked a good deal more like a veteran than Mara.

Mara's play was actually scary to watch....
