Denis Gauthier declined Rangers tryout invites

Quote:
Denis Gauthier, by the way, a mean-edged veteran defenseman who has previously been charged as a headhunter and currently is out of work, more than once was invited to attend training camp on a tryout basis with the Rangers by GM Glen Sather.

The MENSA member declined the offers, choosing instead to remain unemployed.

Michael Barnett had Gauthier in Phoenix.

I bet he declined because of his past history with Avery.

Avery on Gauthier after he gave Roenick a concussion in a preseason game: "I think it was typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on, running around and playing tough and not back anything up."

I despise Gauthier. A dirty player who has been caught for headhunting numerous times. Sadly, last season, Gauthier was suspended only 5 games for an intentional hit to the head while Avery was suspended 6 games for the sloppy seconds incident.

Good for you guys that he declined. Gauthier is a disaster. He's not an NHL player.

Some of these players need a reality check. They expect to receive guaranteed contracts. Gauthier stole money for the last 3 seasons. The Flyers gave him $6.3 million over 3 years. The Rangers tried to acquire him from Phoenix at the 2006 trading deadline but Barnett wanted Ivan Baranka. Dean Lombardi rescued him from the minors last season. Lombardi and Ron Hextall knew Gauthier from their days in Flyers management.

MA Bergeron turned down an invite from Columbus. Dominic Moore turned down 3 years/$5.1 million from Toronto before Burke traded him to Buffalo. Manny Malhotra turned down 4 years/$8 million from Atlanta. Francis Bouillon is still unsigned. He was probably offered a tryout by many teams.

Thank God for the Rangers that he had more sense than Sather. Despicable player of poor character and zero code of ethics. Brashear is a Sunday school teacher compared to Goat Puke.

Totally agree. I think it's their agents talking, but they all needs pimp slaps. These idiots arent factoring in that EVERY occupation in North American and Europe is cutting back or leveling salaries for the next few years. I feel really bad that Dominic Moore cant score 40 goals and get Hossa or Gaborik money, but he needs to **** and drive on.

In all honesty, I'm glad a lot of these larks are unemployed. A lot of them wouldnt even be in the league if it werent for expansion. It's so typical of these guys to stink up the joint, then have a great second half of their walk year so their agents can ask for the starts in free agency.

You are going to start seeing a lot more unsigned CHL and NCAA kids make rosters on the cheap. Personally, I like it.

Any team is better without Denis Gauthier.

And I agree, Avery getting 6 games for 'funny' comments about a girl and Gauthier getting 5 games for this is a total joke:

And after the hit, he acts like it was nothing!

I do think the club is missing that type of player on defense... Not dirty...just menacing! But I am happy it wasn't Gauthier. Would have liked to see maybe a Garnett Exelby, or a Boullion.

The effects of a salary cap. Qualified and capable players like Tanguay, Sykora, and even Prospal, are taking cheap 1 year deals in hopes that more cap space will open up next summer. It seems like the agents are the ones to blame for it. They're giving their clients bad advice. Guess they didn't get the memo that this is a salary capped league now.

Considering that wearing a visor saved Koivu and many more players from losing an eye, you comment is really out of line.

Good. We don't need that dirty, overrated piece of garbage anywhere near this team.

Notice how the HABS just kept playing and never even bothered to go after him. That is almost more troubling than the hit.

I think he's talking about fighting with one, not wearing one in general

I noticed that too. What's with that?

I mean, seriously a guy leaves his feet and suckers one of your teammates and no body goes over to throw a punch?

that was just a really bad year all around. a centenial to forget, unfortunately.

funny though because Gauthier had publically said that he REALLY wanted to play for the habs and was hoping they'd give him a try out.

ya. ok.
