John Moore's jersey number?

I was just wondering if anyone knows why John Moore wears number 49? I know he wore number 7 when he was with the Steel. Players change their numbers if someone else is wearing it when they come to their new team and then change it when it becomes available (like Russell did with #10 since it was taken when he got here), but no one is wearing 7 here. So does anyone know why?

probably just assigned to him, as they do with most rookies.

Personally I don't like the number 7 for a hockey player, especially a defenseman. Too clean looking. A hockey number needs to be distinguished..and 7 is so cliche for my taste.

I think that would be a great question to call in and ask.

Like whomever already said, it was likely just an assigned number. All the rookies/tryouts etc have higher numbers and they change them (if they want to) if/when they become permanent.

7 x 7 = 49

These guys are into such hockey numerology.

I might think it a bit presumptuous of an 18 year old to request such a low number.

If he makes the team, look for #7 perhaps, but for now...not so much.

I do like this theory. Hadn't even thought about it before!

I just saw him on Sunday at Giant Eagle and totally forgot to ask while we were there! D'oh!

Moore is quickly becoming my favorite "prospect." His jersey (whenever he makes the "varsity" squad) will be the first one that I'll buy.

I remember Gilbert Brule wore 33 his first preseason here, before changing his number to 17 for the regular season.

Somebody in my section bought a Brule 33 jersey though. For serious.
