I haven't seen Hinote play, but he has a history of being a very good fourth line grinder on Colorado teams that were very similar to the Sharks offensively. He'll drop the gloves, forecheck viciously, and even score here and there. I'd much rather have him in the lineup that Shelley/Staubitz.

i used to think of him as the Av's version of Darren McCarty

From Twitter, Kevin Allen from USA Today:
kausatoday: #San Jose Sharks sign C Manny Maholtra. I like this move for a team trying to just change their chemistry without disrupting their core.

Best I've found is from here:
Code:
must remain out for 24 days and 10 games since the initial injury.

I should have been clearer. W/ Malhotra now signed at $700K, when can they bring Mitchell back and have enough cap room (I know LTIR means 10 games or 24 days).

Manny Malhotra is officially a Shark. $700,000, according to a source familiar with the contract. That’s less than half of what Malhotra, 29, earned a year ago in Columbus. "I talked with my wife and we decided to make the commitment to go somewhere we could win now.” The current contract is for one-year at a below market price because, frankly, that’s all the Sharks could afford to fit Malhotra under the salary cap. But there’s also the strong sense that if things go well this season, the contract could be extended and the pay could be significantly higher down the road. As for Malhotra’s role here, he and the team see him as a third-line center with Torrey Mitchell sliding to right wing.

At $700k, we have player who will cost less than Goc did last year but will give us all the good he did PLUS scoring and offensive awareness.

People keep saying, where will the secondary scoring come from? Well I answer with McGinn-Malhotra-Mitchell.

This is one of the coolest things I have seen in awhile. Nice to see a player serious about winning, nothing more serious than ****ing with someone's money

Well since Mitchell fits in under the cap already we could bring him back as soon as he's eligible. Depending on who we choose to take his place while he's on LTIR we may have to trade/waive/send to Worcester some players to fit him back under the cap.

I'm thrilled to have Manny. The type of 3rd liner we need ... I thought this was a pipe dream because of our cap situation too. Whoo!

One of the few good moves D.W. has done. Malhotra would be solid on the 3rd line with McGinn & Mitchel or, even Ferriero as a filler for Mitchel when out with his injury problems.
