Fonts?

Can anyone post some favorites in terms of free fonts, or just favorite fonts here? I'd like to add some more to my collection.

VNI-HLThuphap is the one in my current signature

another one of my personal favorites is Cicle: http://www.dafont.com/cicle.font

I'm a total font geek. I love fonts. My computer at work has a ton.

Instead of telling you the ones I love, I'll tell you the two I have grown to hate. Papyrus and Copperplate. Both are way too overused.

Free fonts are great if you are doing sigs and what not but if you want to be serious, buy the fonts.

There is no substitute for it, the best things in life aren't free in this case.

Helvetica and Avant Garde are well worth the money.

Well, in my case, the download

I've got a reasonable amount of fonts, too. Aaux Pro is a very nice font. Myriad is also very useful.

You can find helvetica and what not through torrents, but you still won't get the quality if you paid for it. It sucks to pay for it, but if you want to be taken seriously, you gotta learn to use the right fonts and then you need to learn that quality is better than cheap quantity.

I am noticing way too many people use a few different fonts for an image...it's a big no-no. Graphic Design school would be a start.

Well, you can use different weights of the same font if you know what you're doing.

Sad thing is, most people don't know what they are doing and people keep telling them "dude that's awesome, omg that's wicked" instead of telling them the truth. The truth hurts but you learn from it.

I have used crappy fonts in the past that I got for free or through torrents, ones that people pay for and while some were of great quality, others...not so much and if you want to be taken seriously...you gotta get quality.

Serious with what exactly?

I've been surprised with the amount of quality fonts I've found for free. And personally I've found that many fonts are incredibly expensive, and way too expensive for my current income.

You generally get more flexibility when you buy a font family. More weights to choose from and there aren't problems when you go to postscript the file. Some free fonts will throw errors at render time. Not all, just some. I've had mixed luck with font sites. Still, they're a great place to get ideas.
