Markov not on Fantasy NHL preview: Defense

I cannot post the link, but its at the front page of the NHL tab on the TSN website on the sidebar. Markov is not mentioned as a top selection... and not even mentioned as OTHER good picks at the end. It is really frustrating to see Markov not getting the credit he rightfully deserves!

Weird as it sounds, Markov is not a great defenseman to pick in fantasy hockey.

Pools generally give out positive points for PIMs (something which I've never understood) and put less value on power play assists than other categories. It just happens that Markov is a PP assist wizard who rarely hurts his team by taking penalties, which makes him less attractive in a fantasy pool than lesser D-men who play a different style.

Plus/Minus is also an issue. Historically, the Habs have generally been mediocre to terrible at 5-on-5, so their D-men's +/- suffered. I'm hoping this changes this year, but they do these things by projecting past statistics.

His value to a real hockey team and his value to a fantasy team are two entirely different matters.

i dont know what kind of pool you play in but im in 4 pools and all of them work the way they should...Goal=1 Assist=1...OTG=1 and thats it

giving points for taking a penalty is bogus

Yah I was thinking that too, but if you look at other defense cullen mentions... like Gonchar who is very much similar to markov and is projected to be a +7 only... why wouldnt they mention markov as well? Kronwall too, who is projected to get 52 pim and less points.

Because its Leafs media. But thats fine, the more delusional they are, the more delusional the Leafs fans become, the longer they will have to wait for a cup.

We have our own media to worry about.

Kaberle >>> Markov
Kadri >>> Spezza

Seriously, Markov is almost a lock as for top 5 in points for D-man. I could see him finish second, behind Green.

Yeah, I watched it and I must have rewatched it like 5 times to try and find Markov in there. They had Mat Niskanen. Not to diss Niskanen because I think that in the future he'll be a very good NHL defencemen. Markov >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Niskanen

most online pools give points for +/- and pims. Depending on the pool, they have different totals.

In my pool;
1pts -- goal
1pts -- assist
1pts -- +
1pts -- 3 pim

Last year, Alex Burrows was my top scorer and one of the best players in the league.

Isn't Markov that guy that's almost as good as Subban?

Meh, I'll pass.

(Adding despite it's effect killing properties, to avoid getting mugged, shot, and stomped on).

I don't five a **** about what TSN thinks, we know how good he is and what he brings to the table. Them not saying anything is also good because then we get to pick him in a lower round.
