Predators and Oilers Kicking Tires

Courtesy of the Oilers' board.

Quote:
I got some confirmation that the Oilers and Predators are kicking each other tires. Nilsson would seem like an obvious choice, but Ive heard whispers about Pouliot and Pisani as well. Nashville has lots of cap space if they want to acquire either Pisani or Nilsson.

I know the Oilers have lots of D-men, but would Hamhuis be of interest to them? Well see.
Jason Gregor of Oilers Nation.

Tootoo for Nilsson or Pisani?

if we send Tootoo away, he needs to go to the East.

I'm not the biggest Tootoo fan, so I'm biased...but overall, I'm not sure any of those players are the answer. Pisani might be okay, but he's pretty overpaid at this point.

would draft picks really count as "kicking our tires"?

I wouldnt mind Nilsson. He hasnt put up great numbers but would be better than what we currently have for a top 6 forward. He is only 24 and has had a season with 71 games played and 41 points, which isnt bad.

He could be a breakthrough player if he gets top 2 line action somewhere.

What about Cogliano?? I have heard numerous rumours about him, and I think he would look real sweet in a Predators jersey! Or we could pursue Frolov in LA.

Cogliano would cost a lot in a trade.....I doubt he is even on the table except in rare situations for certain players.

good point about Cogliano.

Also,

Since Franson will most likely start on Nashville full time. Do you think halfway through season a team shows interest and we deal him to make room for Blum?

I don't think Franson will most likely or even a little likely start the season in Nashville. Bouillon is back in full practice and will likely play tomorrow and\or Sunday, and if all goes as planned I expect he'll be signed outright. At that point:

Suter Weber
Hamhuis Bouillon
Laakso Klein
Sulzer

Well something will have to happen down the line this season eventually I would imagine with Bouillon or Klein. I am pretty sure Franson and Blum both will get lots of ice time with us at some point of another.

Blum just got reassigned, but Franson is still up.

Is Laakso a guarantee over Sulzer and Franson both??

I just do not like the Bouillon signing because it seems to short term IMO. With guys just budding to get on the team in Blum, Sulzer, Franson, Laakso, plus Josi, Roussel, and Ellis will be in a few years at most as well.

That's why Bouillon's deal is only a year. I saw Blum play in person, both in preseason games and at training camp...it's obvious he's got potential, but I don't think his head is ready, yet. As things went wrong, he became visibly flustered...he needs a year or two of seasoning in Milwaukee. It's very hard to jump straight into the NHL for defensemen, and it's near impossible when your blue line is so young to begin with. Franson looks similarly shaky, and he's been outplayed soundly by both Laakso(who I feel has been the best of the bunch, and arguably the fourth best defender in camp) and Sulzer.

Of course Bouillon is short term. Sometimes you have to fill holes with short term solutions in order to give rookies experience and prospects seasoning. Would you rather have seen Bouillon thrown a three or four year deal?
