Does anyone have any word on how getzlaf is recovering from sports hernia surgery? I know hes supposed to be ready to play by the season opener or something but i havent heard any word about it in what feels like weeks lol.. so any updates on his condition?
"With hopes to fully recover from their respective off-season surgeries, centers Ryan Getzlaf (sports hernia) and Erik Christensen (torn labrum in right shoulder) abstained from contact drills Sunday. Carlyle expects them to return in full form by the end of the week."
He was skating with the team in drills on day 1 of training camp. But no scrimmages. So he's progressing, but still not yet having full contact.
Also taking part in his first full practice on Tuesday was Ryan Getzlaf (sports hernia surgery), Anaheim’s top scorer the past two seasons. Barring any unforeseen changes, it appears that he is making progress and on track to possibly see some preseason action.
“If he has these two days of practice and I would suggest that he was fine today unless something creeps up in the next 24 hours, he’ll practice again tomorrow and we’ll assess whether we’ll play him in Vancouver or not,” said Carlyle of the two-time All-Star.”
I don't know what percent his recovery's at, but his effort was around 50%. He took it pretty easy. He did get that great assist on Whitney's goal, but that was after fumbling a beautiful pass from Ryan and blowing his own scoring chance.
Still that line showed its old dominance at times. The Canucks group of half-regulars really struggled against them.
There was definitely rust, and I agree with Spankatola. He was taking it pretty easy out there. He wasn't quite as strong on the puck, and he didn't use his body to the degree that we've become accustomed to. That isn't the least bit surprising. Even if he feels good he probably feels hesitant to put himself in a situation where he really stresses his abdominals.
He looked a bit more like a Joe Thornton than a Ryan Getzlaf. A bit more style and a bit less power.
