Would players work for half their current pay while negotiations take place?

We continue to hear players and Goodenow say that it's Bettman's lockout and that they would love to be playing hockey right now. Would players be prepared to work for half their current contract while negotiations took place as a compromised effort towards getting hockey started while still negotiating a new CBA? They would work for half their contract until a settlement is reached. Even half is more than most are making in Europe and Russia. Just an idea I put out to you players-agents to consider. If you offered to do this the PUBLIC OPINION pendulum might just swing back to your side. After yesterday PUBLIC OPINION is now against agents as well as players.

It's a nice thought, but I think the players should reject such an option just to not be taken advantage so much by ownership. The NHL is trying to get a 15-25% cutback in salaries, and getting a 50% cutback in salaries might hurt the players arguement, even if only for one season. Once more, it's up to the owners to lift the lockout, so even if the players came to this conclusion to play a season, the owners may still opt to lockout to make sure they get their way.

Seems too simple of an answer, so it's probably unlikely. They only like to make things complicated

No way the players would go for that. The owners would have zero incentive to negotiate.
