The pay DOES however determine whether the player has to come back through re-entry waivers if they are recalled. Most players on 2-way deals do not because their AHL pay is below the threshold (and when I say most players, I mean that there *might* be one or two players in the entire league who are the exceptions). Players on one-way deals do because obviously their AHL pay is too high.

Regular waivers are only determined by the number of years the player has been a pro and/or games played as a pro.

So does that mean that Mancari is eligible for waivers but his AHL pay is likely low enough that he wont have to go through them?

He has to clear waivers going down, but not re-entry waivers coming back up (which hopefully will never, ever happen anyways).

report I saw said unless there's a sudden opening on the Sabre roster, then Mancari is on his way through waivers to be assigned to POR.

It would have been his best chance had he been signed, and been in great condition and impressing people in preseason. Now he has no chance.

Mancari will not be with the Sabres.

It's Portland (99% likely) or another NHL team (1% likely).

he has to clear to be assigned, jflory, they likely wouldn't if there were a slot open in Buffalo

Very likely yes. Darche, Bouck and... Mancari all had to clear last year.

Size is size, even if he's passive. Moving him or taking him out along the boards is harder than a wisp like Ennis. Or Gerbe. Or Byron. Or...
