i think hes a decent 7th defenseman....I think Corey Potter would be better off being our reserve defenseman...I dont think hes ever gonna be a stalwart on our blueline, so might as well have him with the big club right now as a better option.

thats just me....but then again, to have 3 rookies out of 7 defenseman is scary as hell.

He is the 7th Dman, he will hardly ever play............he's a good vet that won't complain about sitting, he is just happy he'll have a job

Then their is Sanguinetti, Sauer, Potter, Williams in Hartford............

of course if great deal falls in their lap then great

it's almost a given they use some of that young D depth in a deal before the deadline

So we're looking at something like this:

AUTO-GENERATED CAPGEEK.COM LINES
FORWARDS
Marian Gaborik ($7.500m) / Chris Drury ($7.050m) / Ales Kotalik ($3.000m)
Ryan Callahan ($2.300m) / Chris Higgins ($2.250m) / Sean Avery ($1.938m)
Brandon Dubinsky ($1.850m) / Donald Brashear ($1.400m) / Vaclav Prospal ($1.150m)
Aaron Voros ($1.000m) / Artem Anisimov ($0.822m) / Enver Lisin ($0.790m)
Brian Boyle ($0.525m)
DEFENSEMEN
Wade Redden ($6.500m) / Michal Rozsival ($5.000m)
Matt Gilroy ($1.750m) / Daniel Girardi ($1.550m)
Michael Del Zotto ($1.087m) / Marc Staal ($0.827m)
* Alexi Semenov ($0.650m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m) / Steve Valiquette ($0.725m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
ROSTER: 22; PAYROLL: $56.538m; CAP ROOM: $0.474m BONUSES: $0.212m

I assume Semenov as a 7th d-man will receive an offer of $550k-650k neighborhood.

So going with the assumption that Del Zotto has made the opening night roster at least, does he change his number once camp breaks? Wasn't he #4 in London?

Yea he will most likely change his number. The number he is wearing now is just his assigned training camp number. 99% of the prospects/rookies get assinged their numbers..the exception being Gilroy which was a nice act by the Rangers considering why he's worn that number his whole life almost..

I wonder if the Rangers organization has any intent to retire #4 and have Greschner's jersey in the rafters... As it should be.

Just bring that up because #4 would be a logical choice for Del Zotto (wore it throughout his junior career). But one would have to wonder if they plan to retire it.

They need to recognize more players. Cook bros and Boucher as well.

About a dozen guys have worn #4 since Greschner.

TB has 11 defensemen in camp. Some of the available D played for John Tortorella and/or Mike Sullivan.

Quote:
Defense - Matt Lashoff, Matt Smaby, Mike Lundin, David Hale, Lukas Krajicek
Quote:
I would say Matt Smaby hangs around and perhaps Matt Lashoff. In my opinion, those are the two players who they would have to put through waivers that wouldn’t want to lose to another team. I don’t want to imply that David Hale or Mike Lundin are expendable, but the Smaby provides an element of toughness that outside of Matt Walker the team doesn’t have
http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sp...ht-in-atlanta/

I like Smaby from his North Dakota days. Nice contract. $525,000 cap #.2 year deal. One way.Lundin did play 81 games for TB in 07-08 when Torts coached there. Lundin has a 1 year 2 way deal worth $550,000/$105,000. Torts knows both players.

Krajicek makes too much money-$1.475 million. Lashoff is still a prospect. They played for Sullivan last season in TB.

Hunter went on to say he expects defenceman Michael Del Zotto, who is with the New York Rangers, to start the season with the Rangers, getting an extended look.

Hunter is London Knights GM Mark Hunter.

TB hasn't made a move with their multiple defensemen? They waived three forwards and release another forward from a tryout but didn't make a move with their D.

Quote:
So, what's the next step? Well, perhaps the team tries to add a forward either through trade or off the waiver wire. GM Brian Lawton has maintained pretty consistently he is inclined to keep eight defensemen. If that is the case, it means he could keep up to 13 forwards. Lawton also did nothing to dissuade the notion that the decisions to be made on defense include the usual suspects: Matt Lashoff, Mike Lundin, Matt Smaby, David Hale and Lukas Krajicek.

As we have said, Lashoff and Lundin are on two-way contracts, and all five would need waivers to get to the minors. Complicating things is that Krajicek and Hale actually have had pretty solid training camps and Smaby, Lundin and Lashoff, all young and with upside, could get claimed off waivers.

I would take a package or Ranger and Kraijek......that's only 22 million..........would offer Girardi, Voros and a pick

It's true that a couple have worn #4 since Greschner.

But with the Organozation's willingness to recognize players lately (Howell and Bathgate)...

Just saying.

It would be nice to see Del Zotto in #4, though. A nice simple number. And the kid is going to be a special player.

I second that. Of course, 8 is available too.

(Unless they are retiring it for Malik?)

They should retire it for Darren Turrcotte, the first Ranger whose jersey I ever owned.
