Anyways, back on topic...
I can see Sangs making the club next season. Puck moving offensive defenseman are a hot commodity in this league.
We could have some seriously nice lines D-pairings next season and for the future...
In no particular order...
Staal-MDZ
Girardi-Sangs
Rosie/Red-Gilroy
(Assuming we move one of Redden/Rossie)
I'd love to see one of thr R&R boys get bought out or moved.
This is great news. Let's see what happens after 10 games.
Yea while I'm very happy I'm trying to not get too excited yet. But if he looks good and sticks for the year I will be ecstatic.

i think he keeps number 43 so he doesnt jinx himself before hes locked in for the season.
hmmm... I have a jersey of Callahan with the #43 on it from when he just got called up w/ us... should I keep the Cally on the back, change it to Del Zotto or change the # to #24 for Cally?

Lots of learning to do this season for a 19-year-old like Del Zotto, but if he's up to the challenge and can attend to his defensive responsibilities as well as help do his part to spark the Rangers' offense (we all know they need it), then this is really good news. Should be interesting. At least he'll get a 9-game sample of NHL play that actually counts at the very least, but I'm hoping he plays well enough all around to be a benefit to the team for the full season.
I am not sure if it's been mentioned before, but what are the D pairings going to look like this year?
Nobody knows.
Torts has used so many combinations in camp.
Guess
Staal-Rozsival
Redden-Gilroy
MDZ-Girardi
Torts wants an offensive defenseman paired with a defensive defenseman. He wants Staal to become more involved in the offense so Staal-Gilroy doesn't meet that criteria.
MDZ has been mostly paired with Girardi during preseason.
^^^^ Good point about Staal and Gilroy, but I can't say I'm 100% sold on it working out with Staal putting up more offense. At least, I don't think he needs to change his game a whole lot to do so, just finish his chances

I don't think that's really been determined yet. It's highly likely that the Rangers will mix up their vets and pair them with the two rookies, and by vets, I mean Girardi and Staal.
I'd guess something along the lines of (to start)
Rozsival-Redden (keeping them together so they can eat up a lot of minutes if need be...if they can play the way they are capable of, it's a good, solid pairing)
Staal - Gilroy (someone to cover for Gilroy and settle things down on defense)
Girardi - Del Zotto (similar to above, but less pressure and minutes on Del Zotto, and Girardi is better suited to the third pairing)
Also wouldn't surprise me to see Staal on the first pairing and one of Redden or Rozsival with Gilroy.
Just sounds like Tortorella hasn't made up his mind yet, and there's still the vague possibility they sign Semenov or someone else as a 7th and rotate them in when they feel like it
edit: Jim Cerny just mentioned that Sather said there'd be some news on Semenov today. Possibly a tryout contract
What he brings to the PP will almost certainly guarantee he stays.
No body else on the team can QB the PP the way he does.
As with any rookie, you have to take the bad with the good. If he makes a mistake, it's because he is young.
u make some good points but his mistakes wont be because hes young. examples were crosby and patrick kane and players like them who have succeeded at young ages. i think its more of a lack of experience, development, and true superstar. i see MDZ as a great defenseman in the future and i like the direction torts is taking with this team, but there are question makes on how this defense is going to perform. and any mistakes i feel will be more of being nervous in the beginning because lets face it, a 19 yr old playing at the garden for NYR, its going to be a big adjustment and patients with this kid is going to be needed
Girardi is who we should be shopping, but not now. Lets move him at the end of the year. With all our D prospects, I don't see him in the future plans since he's not an ideal fit for Torts system.
Awesome... this guys potential is through the roof.
I wish I can feel the elation that MDZ is feeling righ about now
If I am MDZ, I am very scared now. I hope he's truly ready and he's not placed in a position he can't handle. Even Zubov didn't make it until 22.5 years of age, with half a year in the AHL and 5 years in the best non-NHL team in the world (CSKA Moscow).
Just based on his PP work alone he's worthy of more than 9 games. Good - this puts more pressure on Rozy and Girardi to step up their games.
It's not what he deserves, it's what's best for his career. If he deserves to be our #5-6 defenseman, but long term would be significantly better off going back to juniors to dominate there, then do that.
If he can get a season under his belt and learn faster, helping his career, then do that.

Let's hope it works out.
I think he's ready... physically at least. We'll see if he's there mentally soon enough.
Anyway, it won't be the worst thing if he gets sent back to juniors. Sauer or Sanguinetti are more than ready to fill a 5th or 6th spot
