I think Gerbe played just as well as Kennedy did if not better. I watched all preseason games and the only game I thought Kennedy really played well was the last one against Toronto. You gotta look at who they are playing with, position played, and minutes played too. Gerbe brings hype to the team itself. Gerbe will be in the NHL someday for sure whether it is in Buffalo or elsewhere.

I hope Ellis plays 82 games

My preferred 4th line would be:
Mair/McCormick-Ellis/Kennedy-Kaleta/Mair

Ellis - 72 games
Kaleta - 60 games
Mair - 60 games
McCormick - 32 games
Paille - 0 games
Kennedy - 22 games

When will we know the extent of Lydman's injury?
Even if he comes back, does Myers stay up irregardless?

I hope they suit Paille over Ellis.

Buffalo News says Kennedy is practicing on a line with MacArthur and Pominville, so...

Vanek - Connolly - Roy
MacArthur - Kennedy - Pominville

That second line will be a real wild card...

Kennedy and Pominville looked good together in the preseason. Lets hope they carry that over.

Clearly the top two lines are dependent on whether Stafford will be ready to go or not. But it will be interesting to see how Kennedy does as the #2 center.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the hold Stafford out until the 2nd game. Buffalo doesn't play again until Thursday night. Would give him some time to get his head right. We shouldn't play around with concussions.

Meanwhile, the Sabres placed Adam Mair on the injured/non-roster list. He is skating in non-contact roles and has yet to take a physical.

This is different than IR. This is the same status as Teppo when he missed the year with heart surgery. I don't think Mair is counted against the cap until he's back on the roster. Hopefully the Sabres won't do something stupid like claim his injury isn't hockey-related and try to deny Mair his salary.

Soft, but I'm excited to see what Roy and Connolly can do together.

I think that's a bunch of bull. He's short, but he plays with a lot of intensity. He is tougher along the boards and less afraid to go into heavy traffic than a lot of guys much bigger than he is. I think you are expecting too much too fast from him. I think he will have a strong NHL career.

A team with Roy as it's most talented center is not a playoff team. So sure - there are probably teams that would love him on their first line. There are a lot of non-playoff teams. I'm just sick of being one.

Don't get me wrong - Roy can tear **** up on the 2nd line, there's no denying that. But when pressed into #1 duty, his game suffers, and I'd rather put him in a position to succeed.

I hope I'm wrong, but my gut instinct tells me he'll be a complete bust at the NHL level.

Gerbe told Lindy he thought he had a chance at the 4th line, and Lindy flatly told him he didn't, That it wasn't his role, that he was a scorer.

Im glad Lindy holds that view of the 4th line. After that he basically said guys like Gerbe and Kennedy aren't 4th liners, that's Matt Ellis' job.

It's true. Ruff needs at least one guy that works hard, but sucks.

You think Ellis sucks ?

What does Paille bring to the 4th line that Ellis doesn't? What is more important to the 4th line, Hard Work or perceived talent?

how can you not like Ellis? i think he should play 82 games, but probably wont...he exudes effort and more often than not causes multiple chances down low when he's on the ice. i'll take him over any of our other 4th liners every night.

cheers!

Ellis and Kaleta are two perfect pieces of a 4th line. the other piece should be a rotation of Mair, McCormick, Paetsch, Montador and Cowan if necessary. I have no patience for trying to put skill players or busted former 1st rounders on the fourth line, Paille, Kennedy, etc should be in the top 9 or out of the lineup.
