Jarku Ruutu isn't listed in HIFK's lineup for the Jokerit match. Is he hurt?

Ruutu is suspended for 1 game, due to collecting 3 major penalties. He got 2 ridiculous misconducts from Russian refree Karabanov (WHY do we have to do this refree changing thingie?) in last game against Tappara.

Yes, there have been officials from Sweden, Swizerland and now Russia judging the Finnish games (Only the head referees, no linesmen except from Sweden).

How frequently do the 'foreign' refs officiate games? Is it a season-long deal? Is this the first year?

Thanks to all for the info!

There is 7 countries involved (Finland, Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Switzerland) with each country having 2 referees. Everyone of these 14 officiates 10 games in other leagues, mostly in 2-game periods.

In SM-liiga there has been now 10 games with foreign referees. Of Finnish referees, Timo Favorin has visited in Slovakia and Switzerland and Hannu Henriksson in Russia and Germany.

Will the program last all year? Does it include the playoffs?

I don't think it includes playoffs, but it will last for a season.

Anyway, Friday game:

Jokerit-HIFK 6-1
7.12 1-0 Toni Dahlman (Martti Järventie, Brian Campbell)
9.40 2-0 Sami Lepistö (Glen Metropolit) PP

43.39 5-1 Brian Campbell (Juha Lind, Petri Varis) SH EN
56.47 6-1 Petri Varis (Juha Lind)

Tim Thomas 34 - Jan Lundell 23

Since 2nd period until 5-1-goal, HIFK tried four times on 6-4. Once they scored, but then Campbell scored empty-netter. Jokerit has won all 4 games in this season, 1 in shootout. Two fights in the game, first with Markus Kankaanperä and Roman Vopat, second with Martti Järventie and Arttu Luttinen.

In HPK - JYP game there was three "first goals". First Westcott scored his first ever SM-Liiga goal. Then Janne Hauhtonen scored his first goal of the season and after that Arsi Piispanen scored his first SM-Liiga goal in men's level.

39.56 1-1 Toni Söderholm (Kimmo Kuhta, Pasi Saarinen) PP
40.56 2-1 Kimmo Kuhta (Toni Söderholm)

Jan Lundell 21 - Niklas Bäckström 14

Michael Nylander had incident in the penalty box with spectators. There was no glass between the crowd and the box. Nylander didn't get any penalty for that during the game, but he could get something by the disciplinary boss.

Someone who was watching the game can tell more.

Nylander and one of the spectators who climbed to the penalty box commentated the incident to Iltalehti:

The spectator:
Quote:
Nylander löi minua mailalla käteen. Jos et usko, niin katso vaikka, noin kolmikymppinen mies sanoi ja näytti ruhjeen saanutta käsivarttaan erätauolla.
Translation: Nylander hit me to the hand by his stick. Look, if you don't believe me, the man said and showed his contusioned hand.

Nylander:
Quote:
Mailani osui kaiteeseen. He olivat humalassa ja käyttäytyivät todella törkeästi.
Translation: My stick hit the balustrade. They were drunk and behaved very rudly.

Interesting to see what is going to happen. IFK will get sanctions for sure because there was no glass between the crowd and players, but what will happen to Nylander?
