Semenov will play Fri. If healthy he will play all 82 games. Torts will sit Girardi first in favor of Sanguinetti.

I'm just going with the end of the season and this preseason man. Last 15 games of last year, 1 assist. 7 playoff games, 0 points. What is so wrong comparing Rosival circa Torts tenure vs what we've seen from Semenov? Even if Rosival had Semenov's contract, how he has played under Torts has been pretty forgettable. Rosival has so many bone headed plays and botched zone clears it makes me think he somehow killed Malik and ate his soul.

In comparison Semenov plays ok. If he can decrease the dumb penalties, then he's doing his job well enough. Uses that size ok. Could be a better skater but so could 1/2 the team.

Solid 7th dman that could fill in when needed. Not bad.

Nice to see the signing of Semenov has turned into a childish Roszival bash-session.

Even one suggestion that our camp tryout 7th d-man is better. Truly comic gold.

People can go whine about Rozsival in the Rosie/Redden thread or any of the 3e53464 other threads that devolved into Rozsival hate-fests.

So, does this mean the Rangers may be looking to off-load a contract in order to get back down to 49 or so?

eh. They could have had someone more established for just 100K or 200K more.

Just a quick observation, but you really like Russian and Ukrainian players, don't you?

Can't complain. He's not going to play very often, he's not making much and we need some veteran depth, so why not?

i don't hate this move, but i'm not really feeling it. we really couldn't have done any better?

if he plays 20-30 games, fine. if he plays 40plus.....that would suck

I would be perfectly content with Rozsival's lack of offensive production IF he actually used his size and played competent defense, but he does not. He doesn't even do the "little things"... Redden DOES.. rarely, but he does.

When looking for a player who isnt going to play all the time there are more factors that go into the decision. Attitude, character, leadership and just overall chemistry with the teammates has a lot to do with if they will be successful. The player has to understand and accept their role and be a good team guy. From all indications, Semenov as a whole impressed the Rangers enough on and off the ice to offer him this deal. Good for him, its a feel good story for him to come and try-out with nothing guaranteed and make the team.

From watching him the last couple years he isn't that bad IMO. He might make some mistakes here and there but he is pretty good with his reach. The surprise part of his ability is he has a pretty sneaky slapshot that he puts through the crowd. I always wanted to see him on the PP before Blake came. He just seemed to get the shot through

The Rangers have $524,166 of cap space. With MDZ's $212,500 bonuses,it's $311,666. Those bonuses would be applied to the 10-11 cap. 7.5% over.
