Stephane Robidas to sign a 4 year extension

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/283438.html

4 years, 13.2 millions

I'm not sure if you guys want to put this as a rumour but RDS is reporting it and it's coming from his very good friend Dave Morissette (Former NHL/AHL/ECHL goon) so it's pretty reliable.

Good money for what he brought last season, but I dont think it's ever wise to sign a player after a career year.

Literally every other bad contract is a result of signing a player after a career year.

Ugh **** me. As a Dallas fan I am so not pleased with this. I'd rather give 3 million to a lot of other guys in need of extensions. Especially since that means someone else is gone soon to make room for Vishnevskiy and Larsen in the future.

Crap.

A little high, but still a good defenseman.

why?

that seems too long for him. I never thought a team would want to build a defense around stephane robidas.

He's a leader in the room and a solid enough defensive defenceman, so I don't care about the length at all. The amount is a bit high though.. I woulda liked to have seen 2.5 per year or just under..

I'm sure all of the people on here who never watch the Stars are going to be in here shortly to trash the deal, but I think this is a case of the Stars paying for more then what Robidas brings on the ice. Supposedly the leadership has been in short supply lately, so I can't complain with this move. Nieuwendyk did say when he got the job that priority #1 was re-building the sort of locker room chemistry the Stars had during their championship season.

-also let's not forget that Robidas just turned 32, so this deal will take him through his age 36 season. He's not really ancient and I think he has a fair shot of keeping up his level of play over that stretch (seeing as his game is based on hard work and shot blocking and hitting and all the things you don't have to be a offensive wizard to do).

VVV Someone needs to use their calculator.

good signing but 4.5 cap hit 4 years... not the best should be payed 4.5m this year 4 next followed by 3.5m then 3m.

Robidas has really stepped up his game the last 2-3 years and is very deserving of that contract. Great move by Niewy and the Stars.

?

13.2/4 does not equal 4.5 in America

I would have preferred three years and $2.5-$3 million instead of $3.3, but it's close enough that I'm not overly displeased with it.

It leads me to suspect the Stars are shopping a youngish d-man or were very, very displeased with how Vishnevskiy has come along when they got a look of him at camp.

4.5 cap hit? Don't you mean 3.3 cap hit?

No way is Robidas worth 4.5 mil.

I agree 100% with this statement. There has been no one on the Stars team over the past couple of years who has been more dependable. Robidas has done virtually everything the franchise has asked of him, with the exception of successfully quarterbacking the pp. He has stepped up and had to face teams top offensive guys, he has had to mentor to a very young group of defenders, plays with more heart than the vast majority of people. Good for him, I'm not thrilled about the price but I'm ok with it.

I'll live with it.

The only concern is roster space in 1-3 years. But this signed is quite alright with me.

Sorry but I am playing downer here... Thats alot of money for a guy who just seems like a run of the mill d-man in the NHL..... I do not watch him on a nightly basis but from what I saw he is not worth that kinda money. But hey maybe the games I saw he suffering from flu like symptoms or some crap.

Some may not like this contract, but It's not really different than what we supposedly offered Scuderi around the same amount. I like it.

Care to explain? I gather from you detailed post that you don't watch Robidas and just judge him on what you see in the box scores.

I don't know what some of you are talking about.

That's a good deal for a player like Robidas...or have you forgotten what UFA defensemen make in today's NHL?

What does fingering anyone have to do with this? (sorry that was bad taste)

I just hope for Dallas' sake he didn't peak last year.
