Just enough to sign peter forsberg

So the roster is finally set for opening night now?

Alexei Semenov did not practice today and may not accompany the #Rangers to Pittsburgh. A contract issue has arisen, according to the team.

Even if Alexei Semenov is not with team in Pittsburgh, the #Rangers will not recall a seventh defenseman from Hartford.

I think it is more of an issue with the language of the contract that the NHL is not approving. Maybe it pertains to bonsuses or incentives that aren't allowed by the CBA. Most likely it will get hammered out and he will come to terms with the team regardless. The only other issue I can see is if we're miscounting the NHL contracts are the Rangers are at 50 w/o Semenov.

Well, it turns out that the one-year, $600,000 contract Alexei Semenov signed on Wednesday may not have actually been signed. The big defenseman, in on a tryout, was not at practice today and apparently some issue has arisen regarding his contract, and now hes not sure he is or will be a Ranger.

Its pretty vague at the moment. More as it comes.

Huh didn't he say yesterday he was Happy to be a Ranger and he had turned down other options to play in NY?

The NHL probably saw that it was coming from Sather and figured it was missing a zero and a no trade clause

Well done sir

Nothing to be worried about though, I think it will be hammered out by next week.

huh that's weird. No biggie cause its not like Semenov would of played anyways.

I must say if it does fall through for some crazy reason then Schubert at half the price is a no brainer since he can be both a D and a Wing

I would expect Semenov their though

The Rangers have just announced defenseman Alexei Semenov is making the trip to Pittsburgh. No clarification beyond that as to whether all issues have been resolved or if Semenov would be available to play against the Penguins.

does anyone think there is a legitimate chance that Voros is a scratch and we dress 7 defensemen? Because if Semenov is starting over someone, thats pretty disapointing.

Not so fast on that contract Alexei Semenov agreed to with the Rangers last night, for the 28-year defenseman has had second thoughts after sleeping on it.

Semenov, who earned a roster spot after attedfing training camp on a tryout, is believed weighing an offer from the KHL in Russia against the one-year, $600,000 contract offer from GM Glen Sather he (or agent Allan Walsh) verbally accepted.

Semenov is traveling with the team to Pittsburgh, where the Rangers open the season tomorrow.

If Semenov does not sign, the Blueshirts would likely go with six defensemen on the roster for the time being while perusing the list of available veterans to serve as the standby seventh on the blue line.

Hold the phone on that Alexei Semenov signing, at least for now. A night after the Rangers announced they had a contract with the big blueliner, Semenov was not on the ice at practice today and afterward, John Tortorella couldn't answer a question concerning Semenov's role because a team spokesman said "There's an issue" with his contract and that the team was waiting to hear back from Semenov's camp. What that issue is remains unclear at this point, but Semenov is accompanying the team to Pittsburgh without a finalized contract. He wasn't expected to play in the opener anyway, but as of now, he couldn't if they wanted him to.

It's a strange twist, though, given how both the Rangers and Semenov's agent announced that a deal was done (it's a one-year deal for $600,000).

The guy had to know that he was going to get 600 K or so with the Rangers

honestly if he decides to take the money in the KHL whatever, its not like they can't just pick up a guy on the cheap on waivers or just use Potter.

not sure why he would make the trip to Pittsburgh if he did not intend on signing so I imagine it will get resolved......or maybe he is not going to screw the team and will just be their until the next two games are done. Play in case of an emergency type thing

He can't play without a contract and once he signs the contract, he can't go to the KHL. Well, he can, but what would be the point? He'll either sign or he won't. Not really concerned in either case.

This is a weird situation. His agent is Allan Walsh has a twitter account. Earlier today,Walsh announced his client Alexei Semenov had signed a contract with the Rangers. I saw it. A few minutes later, the news broke about there being a problem with Semenov's contract. Walsh has since removed that tweet.

http://twitter.com/Walsha

After practice was over, the indications were the Semenov situation had been resolved and he was on the trip to Pittsburgh but it's hasn't been resolved.

that is weird. looks like he's greedy and wants KHL money..........oh well if so, its not like he's anything more than a spare that will come in here and their.

I think he's a good 7th but not the end of the world if he takes off

Source for what?

Brooks reported Semenov is believed to be weighing a KHL offer.

Brooks wrote if Semenov doesn't sign with the Rangers then they would continue to look for a 7th defenseman.

Walsh made a point of announcing Semenov's signing as he does with all of his clients and then removed it.

blogging and twittering creates chaos with all this information being in real time.

im sure contract deals went down the same way as this just we never knew because it was pre-twitter.
