The Official Flyers' Board NHL Discussion Thread & Fantasy Talk

If you want to discuss other NHL games or pertinent League issues, post it here.

This way, we can consolidate league-wide talk here.

Good call MSE...

It's nice to have hockey back. Seems like a good game so far with Wash/Bos. I'm torn.. I have Knuble and Thomas in my fantasy league.....

Burke was watching the Laraque-Orr fight with binoculars - looked like he was going to have a heart attack or his fat head was going to explode.

One thing for sure everybody is going to HATE the Leafs and their fans even more this season. I don't like the Habs particularly but watching that game sure reminds me of how much I hate those Leafs.

2-0 Caps. Boston just can't get the scoring going.

I have a deal with Opus. If it is met with praise, it is my idea. If it is ridiculed blame him.
Spoil:
it is actually his idea.

I approve of this thread

Too much NHL discussion is lost in the banter thread.

I think that's going to be somewhat of a continuing trend.

I'll just post my predictions here, since there seems to not be a thread for it on the main board, with a quick quip. There tends to be less and less reason anymore to feel like why a team does as good or as bad as you think, I was pleased with my success last season (picked all 8 teams in the west, 6 of 8 in the east):

1- Washington (Top seed out of a weak division, will make a significant deadline move)
2- Toronto (Yeah, I went there. The NFC South of the NHL it seems)
3- Pittsburgh (Atlantic Division beats up on each other)
4- Philadelphia (Might actually be the 1st or 2nd best in the East)
5- New Jersey (They find a way, but will be one-and-done)
6- Boston (Primed to falter a bit, can't possibly repeat 2009)
7- Atlanta (They have to be playoff contender sometime...)
8- Buffalo (Usually lying in the weeds...)
9- Ottawa (Better, but not quite)
10- Tampa Bay (improved to the point of relevance)
11- Carolina (They got white hot last year, too many others got better)
12- Montreal (They should wear blue uniforms and white helmets)
13- NY Rangers (Gaborik goes from a team who won't score, to one who can't)
14- Florida (Just about everyone else got better, they got worse).
15- NY Islanders (15th looks bad, will have a shot at Taylor Hall, but won't be as horrible)

1- San Jose (Will be irrelevant as they'll falter and be out by Mothers' Day)
2- Calgary (May run away with this)
3- Detroit (In less than 2 years, this went from being the worst to the best division)
4- Vancouver (Just need to bring it all together, they're right on the cusp of a contending team)
5- St. Louis (Quiet summer, just need to stay healthy, they get Kariya and Johnson back, I think Brewer too)
6- Anaheim (Top of the playoff fight, should flow better offensively)
7- Chicago (I think will have a similar season that we had in 08-09)
8- Los Angeles ("The Sexy Pick" might be the type of team SJ wants, someone just happy to be there)
9- Columbus (Don't think Mason will be as lights out, but tough to leave them out)
10- Minnesota (I question whether or not a new philosophy is enough)
11- Dallas (I said they'd miss last year, I got lucky with injuries, but I still don't think they're very good)
12- Phoenix (Went ice cold in the 2nd half, should level out, but be stagnant)
13- Nashville (Don't see enough there, yet somehow with the first pick took Rinne in my keeper league)
14- Edmonton (May not be this bad, because they always get hot in March to make a big push for 10th place)
15- Colorado (Did nothing to suggest that they won't be atrocious, in fact lost more than they gained)

I'll come back later with awards, didn't get that far yet.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Peter Forsberg is heading to Denver to honour former Colorado Avalanche teammate Joe Sakic next week.

Forsberg, who won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche and was the NHL's MVP in 2003, will stay in North America for two weeks before returning to his native Sweden.

Sakic's jersey No. 19 will be retired before the season opener against the San Jose Sharks at the Pepsi Center in Denver next Thursday.

"He was a fantastic player," Forsberg said of Sakic. "He meant a lot for me during my career, so it feels right to be there for this occasion."

Sakic was the last link to the Avs' days as the Quebec Nordiques. A first-round pick in 1987, Sakic spent his entire 20-year career with the franchise, leaving as the scoring leader with 1,641 points and eighth of all-time. He tallied 625 goals, and was only the 11th player in NHL history to eclipse 1,000 assists.

Sakic will be on hand when Forsberg's is retired next year. Or whenever.

Stupid that Bourque's was retired before Sakic and Forsberg.

Couldn't agree more.

The 3rd period of the Leafs/Habs game should be entertaining. 2-2 after the 2nd period.

Beauchemin has looked awful thus far.

Ovechkin and Bäckström picking up where they left off last season.
2+1 for Ovie and 0+3 for Bäcks. So far.

And yeah, Beachemin has looked terrible. I thought the game looked slow in the first period.

I hate seeing Knuble in a Washington uni. But I do have him on my fantasy team. Unfortunately, I also think I have Thomas.

Edit: But I do like hearing the Boston announcers when the Bruins are getting their butts kicked.

I have Pronger, Briere, and Giroux. 3rd year in a row someone grabbed Richards right before I was going to.... but at least it was a Flyers fan who got him this time.
