No GM worth his salt is going to allow Finger's contract to be used as a baseline in contract negotiations.

That's a good deal for a player like Robidas...or have you forgotten what UFA defensemen make in today's NHL?
Not even mentioning the really bad contracts, anyone forget that UFA d-man like Hal Gill just signed for $2.2M?

I think the people that don't watch him play will think he's getting overpaid. Those that know what he contributes to the Stars understand his value.

Players will when they compare themselves to that player in regards to talent and value.

And I expect that most players like that will remained unsigned as UFA's until they're forced to pull a Tanguay.

True but with Zubov gone Dallas needed to sign their most consistent D man to a deal that ensures he will be a Dallas #1 D man.

How about Oduya, Scuderi, Morris, and Ohlund?

Could just be me, but I don't think this could be further from the truth. Everything I saw/heard out of Stars people about Vishnevskiy were positive. If anything, I think locking up Robidas (right shot, swift-skating, solid defense) makes him the logical choice of partner for the left-shooting Vishnevskiy in the future.

I was looking at Vishnevskiy from a stats perspective. I know they like his style of game, but I think they were hoping for him to make a strong push at the roster this year, and he didn't. It will be interesting to see how he responds to a full AHL year/several months in the Stars system.

They had 8 defensemen under NHL contract, 7 now that Hutchinson was waived/demoted. Vishnevskiy had about as much chance of making the team out of camp as Larsen did, which is to say that neither was impossible, but they would have had to play crazy good to warrant playing in the NHL in possibly reduced roles to what they would otherwise in Austin and Sweden, respectively. Weren't you the one who didn't want Vishnevskiy making the big team out of camp because it would be better for him to spend some time as the #1 in the AHL anyways?
