Not so good everywhere else.

The Bad: No offensive ability at all. Not physical, cannot maintain possession of the puck down low.

The Good: Smart positionally. Blocks shots. very capable of chipping the puck out of the zone. And as stated, a very very solid Penalty Killer.

for the stated amount of $550K, he's a good signing.

Anything more would have been a mistake.

I doubt that I would be comparing him to Boyle at all as I pesonally will not miss Blair Betts.

I may be alone on the Rangers board, but Betts, Sjostrom, Boyle are all dime a dozen type players.

If given 7-9 minutes a night, he won't hurt you. Anything more and it's a mistake.
For our team and what he will give us it is a perfect fit. I can understand where you are coming from. The Flyers have a chance to have a special season, while the rangers will be mired in the middle of the pack again at best.

Flyers clearly the team to beat, even if the Pens are the champs.

Definitely a good signing. Betts is an amazing PK player and will only bolster the team's incredible defense. I hope he plays well in Philadelphia.

He's a rugged 4th liner who doesn't take penalties -- and we desperately need guys on the team who don't take penalties.

As a Flyers fan, the Penguins are still the team to beat. They knocked us out of the playoffs 2 years in a row, made the finals both year and won the cup last year.

The Pens are the team to beat. But we have a good shot at beating them.

Roster wise, I'd say the Flyers are the better team. Coaching wise, well, that leaves a lot to be desired. If the Flyers are to beat the Pens, they need a better coach and it isn't even close.....

While I admire your optimism, The Stanley Cup champs are the team to beat.

You mean that cardboard cutout that the players carry around from game to game isn't going to be enough?

My point was that its not "Optimism" when you are talking about a team that isnt your own.

I agree the SC champs are the team to beat

The Flyers lost to Pittsburgh 2 years in a row. The Flyers first need to be the best team in Pennsylvania before we talk about being the team to beat.

the NYR 4th line is ginromous to start the year with Voros, Boyle, Brashear..........they did well in preseason

Voros will be out for Avery soon though cause if Tortarella plays Anisimov on the 4th line he's on crack

I will miss Blair Betts, and here's why.

- Key part of the #1 ranked penalty kill in the NHL @ 87.8%.
- Great shot-blocking penalty killing forward.
- Not selke caliber, but solid enough in his own end at ES.
- Not overly physical, but a tenacious forechecker who doesn't take penalties.
- A hard-working player that gives it 110% every shift.
- A great teammate and locker room presence, from what I've heard.

So for Rangers fans claiming that we're losing a marginal player... you're wrong. Sure, he's not going to put up points, and he's going to frustrate you offensively. You people wouldn't give a **** if the other 3 lines on the team, especially the top-2, could score some damn goals, instead of having to win 2-1 games every night.

It was a slap in the face to Betts when they signed Brashear, and you knew he wasn't coming back at that point. I'm sure that if they did want him back, Betts would take the high road, and mend the broken bridges, because that's the kind of guy he is.

I'll miss you Bettsy, just wish you didn't sign with the traffic cones.

I am very happy with this signing.

Betts will help bigtime on the PK and at winning key face offs(8 for 8 in the preseason).

Basically the perfect 4th liner. Great at what he does for pennies against the caps.

The Flyers are going to be really, really good this year.

Dude?! Hello! Boyle totally shut down the future superstar Artem Anisimov in the ohl playoffs a couple years ago! I mean, shut.him.down! >hic< , >hic<... Boyle is only slightly more expensive, and has proven nothing. >hic<... Seriously though. I knew in my lil heart that the Rangers would be signing Gaborik this offseason. Having such a fragile star led me to believe they would "upgrade"their enforcer to try and protect their investment... Orr was not a Torts guy, and an ufa, so I figured they would sign Brashear. They did sign Gabby, and I knew this move was destined to be. Now, clearly Betts would not be expected to lace em up on the same team with the guy who almost decapitated him last yr, right? Sucks for the #1 pk of last year, and will make the FLyer/Ranger games even more painful. Good luck in the other 76 games though, Blair!
