I can't think of a better number for an NHL defenseman.

MDZ reminds me of Greschner who was a really good offensive defenseman before hurting his back. Even after the back injury,he could still skate and had some decent moves.
Kevin Lowe wore #4 with distinction. Aaron Ward and Kevin Hatcher wore #4 with disgrace.

Even though Kevin Lowe wore the 4 I still think of Gresch at first glance.
Ron was my favorite Ranger for a looong time. My dads too.
That slapshot from the point to help beat the Isles in the 79 playoffs was one of my favorite of all time.

Almost forgot Lowe played for the Rangers and wore that number.
#4 to me will always be Gresh's number.
Hopefully MDZ can be half the player Gresh was.
Good luck kid.

Maybe one day they'll do a double #4 retirement, like Bathgate and Gravy - when Greschners old and cant remember his own name. Thats the Rangers way of doing things.
Who knows.

Gresh should be up there. Captain....more games as a Ranger than most guys up there. No slouch when it came to racking up points either.
and he fought, and fought hard....stanley cup finalist!
Welcome to the Rangers MDZ!

I prefer to have offensive d-men wear higher numbers, but I do love the #4.
But, to me, the #4 is usually for true stay at home guys.

Havent had a #4 since Aaron Ward, I believe. Would be hard to confuse them because MDZ is so much smaller.
