Markov injury creates a trade opportunity between the Avs and Habs?

Adrian Dater-Denver Post

Quote:
The Avs benched veteran Ruslan Salei on opening night. They’ve also got a high-paid guy (Brett Clark) in the last year of his contract. The Habs will get some long-term cap relief with Markov’s injury (he’s making $5.75 million this year and next) and could take on a guy like Salei or Clark at their $3 million-plus salaries. Scott Hannan is making $4.5 million, too, and there have been plenty of whispers the Avs offered him in trade this off-season. He has a no-trade clause, but anything is possible.

i would think Tom Preissing would be a better short term solution... particularly on the powerplay, which appears to be the biggest of the trouble spots in losing Markov.

but he's out for a bit too, right?

Why would Montreal want to trade for any of those three? It's not like they're in need of just any defenseman. Markov was the engine that drove their transition game and the quarterback of their powerplay...they're got guys like Gill, Mara, Hamrlik, etc who can fill in for the other roles.

MA Bergeron would be a much more suitable and affordable option...not to mention they wouldn't have to trade for him.

yes but they have to get rid of sergei eventually, because he is suspened and is not going to be reporting.

Salei if a deal was to go down is their best chance big heavy hitter and shooter, 21 points last year, compare the size, shot, points to Hannan, Clark, and Preissing. Liles is good but not at 4.25/season

Svatos can help them up front the same as galiardi. Bergeron i believe won't help montreal, point wise yes, if you want him you might as well go out and get a foward, he is not good in his own end.

Svatos isn't going to be moved until the deadline, and our front office is really big on Galiardi moving forward ever since last season. He pretty much passed up Hensick and stole a roster spot, so I don't see them trading him.

so....

salei

for

sergei kostitsyn

whats montreal do when they are over the cap when markov comes back?

i had the others in the deal so when markov comes back montreal would have 1.4 mill left in cap.

well then they don't do a trade at all & call up weber. no way that trade you initially proposed would fly. they're not going to let AK46 go to make up for Markov being out 4 months when they have Weber waiting in the wings.

Interesting offer, but the Avs are weak at center without Galiardi nor do the Habs part with A. Kostitsyn. Salei for S. Kostitsyn + 3rd, I could see.

If we were to get any defenseman from the Avs, I'd rather it be Kyle Quincey, who I think would be a somewhat decent replacement for Markov.

However, I doubt it that they would trade him away.

Segei for Salei or Clark makes sense for both clubs.

After what happend with Sergei Kostitsyn the last few years , i doubt that any proposal with him involve would work ... unless Bob find a stupid GM to trade with. I know , that, as an Avs fan, the K brothers would be the last players that i would ask in a trade.

Yeah, Quincey isn't going anywhere. The only defensmen I can see being shopped right now are Clark, Salei, and Cumiskey.

it would not put them over cause by the time Markov gets back their won't be much time left in the year and the cap hit will shrink........its like when at the deadline u can fit in a guy worth 4 million

anywho I do think a deal like this makes sense

Colorado has too many Dmen and they want to get younger

maybe Clark makes the most sense since he is a UFA next yr

I would think they want to move Salei since they benched him first though

I can imagine Sergei going somewhere, maybe for a cheap dman? I'd personally like to see one of their young guys step up into that role and see how they produce.

Salei for S. Kostitsyn or a pick makes the most sense.

Salei fills a need for Montreal, a pick fill a need for Colorado. Kostitsyn doesn't fill a need per say, but at least he's young and and Colorado would be removing one of it's 8 defensemen on the NHL roster.
