I would do this in a second, then sign Legace to be a backup.
This doesn't sound like fair value, but if Pierre McGuire proposed it, it means it is realistic. Because after all, there's actual NHL value, and HFBoards value, and they are way different.
How on earth did McGuire get an interview for Wild GM when he proposes stuff like this?
I think it's just that. Filling that role literally. He would be a wildly dumb gm taking his tie off in GMs gone wild videos. How has no one in the city punched him right in the face yet? I thought we were living in a society here.
If the Habs ever had the opportunity to acquire Cam Barker for Sergei and Halak, you worry about your backup goaltending situation after you've pulled the trigger and sent the trade into the commissioner's office. You don't even worry for a second about the backup goalie situation.
Having said that, there is no way Chicago trades Barker for so little. Every GM in the league would put in a higher bid than that to get their hands on Barker.
So much for them needing Halak. M.A. Bergeron will happen. Book it. And why not? He'll cost no more than a million, play limited minutes on D, and heavy minutes on the PP. If i remember correctly, someone else recently did a very good job in that role. I think his named rhymed with "bright".

Bergeron is horrendous defensively. There is a reason that no other team went after him.
Chicago's one of the teams that needs to deal away NHL talent for cap reasons AND has stockpiled a surplus of it by signing overpriced free agents while simultaneously stockpiling draft picks and hitting homers with the picks. Halak and SK both fit into Chicago's tight-cap scenarios, and would probably do well there. But they're not worth Cam Barker. Not even close. However, the thing Chicago most needs is to get rid of salary, the sooner the better, and since the habs just suddenly gained 5.75 million in cap room, there is a real fit between the orgs for a deal. Having Gomez pretty much means we can't take Campbell. It would be an organizational disaster.
It'll never happen but, boy I'd love to find a way to pry Cam Barker out of there. Full credit to McGuire for targeting a guy you'd still be ecstatic to have after Markov comes back.
Cam Barker, according to him hes a potential 1st pairing D, 23 years old, and has a howardser of a shot.
I have no idea what makes pierre think that the hawks would want sergei.
Barker does have a good shot. I wouldnt call it a booming shot but he is very good at getting it through traffic. You can say that he's a POTENTIAL #1 d-man just due to his age, but I think cam is a decent #2/#3 guy.

It is an obvious move to make, i was just saying that Halak in the deal is probably not going to happen because they have a couple of rookie goaltenders they will give a real shot first. They'll want something similar to what the leafs gave for Kessel. Maybe exactly the same. High draft picks, and maybe Weber.

I know he isn't good defensively, but he did somehow manage to be +5 last year in minny, where everyone else was a minus on defence. and he did manage to score 14 goals. Nobody wants him because he fits into that 7th defenceman/4th line forward pp specialist role that only desperate teams need. Guess what, we're desperate. I'm surprised people cry about not having Streit anymore, and yet think this guy will epic fail here. If Streit could excel in that kind of role here, why can't Bergeron? And if you say something like, "Well Streit is way better now", why on earth cant Bergeron improve defensively as well? They are practically the same age. All im saying is that with the right role, i think bergeron could fit well here.

That along with Kane they would have 2/3 of their successful junior line. Take it for what it's worth, obviously, but he did mention that part of their history, and if there are any takers for Sergei who think they could have a top six forward ready to break out under the right circumstances, then I guess that Chicago is one place to look.
