A few observations:

Doughty: Fairly certain that this was his worst game in the NHL.

Martinez: I feel bad for the kid. He was obviously nervous and was exceptionally bad tonight, and that is saying something.

Scuderi: My favorite was when he stood still with the puck in his skates long enough to get plowed. That was awesome.

Sean O'Donnell, please come back soon.

Koptar: Dude bungled a perfect setup in the slot, scored a gimmie on a wide open net, missed another one with the goalie down & out, and still was nothing to write home about in the defensive zone. I will say though that he at least did NOT look lazy in the offensive zone. He was assertive and made some things happen, which is at least a good sign.

Smyth & Williams were decent. They both bring dimensions to the game that the Kings have been lacking, and their play will reap dividends.

Frolov: Looked a little different tonight. Perhaps a bit more hustle, which is a good thing.

Brown & Stoll looked lost. Stoll I can understand a bit, but Brown? Pull you head out dude.

All in all a craptastic evening. I don't expect things to get better against San Jose either. Can we get the offseason back? At least then there was hope...

I remember one play where four Kings players were behind their own goal line for a breakout. Kopitar and Smyth (I think) both circled around the net at the same time while the D held on to the puck behind the net. The other D was standing behind the goal line but off to the left.

I dont even know how to sum up the game.

Kopitar- Had a good game.
Smyth- looked good.
Willaims- Invisible
Brown- Horrible
Stoll- Invisible
Purcell- Invisible
Simmonds- bad game
Frolov- I actually thought fro had a great game.
Handzus- nothing special
Our 4th line is crap!
Greene- had a good physical game.
Doughty- like others have said, his worst game.
Scuderi- Invisible
Martinez- cant wait for OD
Drewiske- Invisible
Johnson- had an okay game.
Quick- definitly could have stopped one or two of the goals, but I dont blame him for the loss.

None of our passes were connecting, felt like we were on the PK half the time. Overall terrrible game.

btw it was pretty sad seeing the fans leave with 12 minutes left to go in the third.

just got back from the game.

-We still suck 5 on 5
-Our powerplay is decent
-Kopitar was pretty good and so was Smyth
-Simmonds and Doughty played like rookies
-Brown sucked
-Once again this team has no spark plug, nothing to get them going. We need Clune to get into the lineup quick.

On a side note Nick Nickson said that Loktionov scored 3 goals and added an assist in his first pro game tonight, he said it was some kind of record I don't remember exactly for what though.

Bingo.

Passing especially was a huge problem all last season and was as bad as I've seen it tonight.

A rookie getting a hat trick in first pro game with Monarchs.

Well, I counted 4 posts.
Two Gauthier like giveaways.
1st night jitters.

Here's one major difference.

I bet you that this time comes out with some fire because I doubt very seriously that Smyth and Scuderi and sitting around on their thumbs without saying anything in the room. They'll get up and make their presence felt. I would hope if anything that maybe even Brownie steps up and says something.

You can only go up from here (right Jon Quick?).

Smyth looked pretty damn good tonight. The PP was refreshing. 5 on 5 wasn't... nor was team D. Doughty had a dreadful night - as did I watching it all live.

Just about everyone looked like it was their first ever game in the NHL. Nerves were out of control bad tonight.

They'll be better Tuesday. They can't be much worse. They need to take 2 out of 3 at home before they hit the road for 6 games or they could easily wind up in a very big hole to start the season.

Brown is getting GLOWING reviews...

In all honesty it's best to get a game like this out of their system early.

Atleast we're ahead of Detroit in the standings.

OT: Anyone know why they didn't do the national anthem? I know they did God Bless America, but I thought they would have done both.

Just got back from the game and well just can't shake my head enough. It's the first game of the season so I 'm not going to look into it too much. But lets just say we better not look like this for the rest of the year. That was by far the worst game Doughty has played so far. Should I say sophmore slump. Quick should have stopped at least three of the goals. He didn't play well at all. Not a good game to start the season but I'm sure we'll get better. On a side note, anyone notice that Andrei Loktionov had three goals and an assist tonight. We definitely need him tonight.

We have no breakout. Instead it's try to skate to the red line, dump the puck, and try to create something from behind the net. It didn't work last season, and it didn't work tonight.
I miss the days when Lubo would quarterback and make those crisp tape-to-tape passes to Kopi or whoever. We have some skill in our lineup and let's try to utilize it. None of this dump & chase stuff.

That was bull crap.

I got 'SHHHHHH'ed for yelling "THE KINGS" after she said "GOD BLESS".

Which was also bull crap.

He wasn't THAT bad. He threw some good checks and didn't make any big errors. He was invisible but so were a lot of other players (Purcell,Williams, Stoll, etc).

I know it is early, but since last season, I've been waiting for Dustin to act like a leader on ice and take charge. When I think of leaders, I think of captains who stepped up their game when their team needed them most. I don't see that type of confidence in his game.

I think Johnson shows more leadership and you can see he wants to do anything he can to help the team win, whether it be a big shot, big hit or taking on someone. He knows when he needs to step it up to get his team going. Now let's see some of that from Brown. He needs to be challenged at some point if he's not challenging his teammates to play better.

I thought the officiating was rather bad as well, not that it cost us the game though.

Lewis getting his stick held was particularly bad. Especially after the tickiest of ticky tack hooking calls on Doughty.

Personally I didn't think that Brown was a good Captain last year either. I think Johnson eventually will take the captaincy away one day. Assuming he develops his game a bit more. When I think about captains I think about Brendan Morrow, Jerome Iginla, etc. Brown is just not that type.
