There's just nothing else that can be said about the game. I didn't know what they were doing out there. They looked like clowns when they started intercepting each others passes and not knowing what to do with them.

I was a bit harsh on Drewiski though... He was kind of my whipping boy for the night.

no he didn't... he just wasn't lousy like a rather large handful of others.

bummed

Well, that one blew....but on a positive note, it was nice to see Ryan Smyth create some chaos. It was better than last season when our players didn't even bother to skate towards the crease of the opposing end to get a goal. Hopefully we'll see more of that when the team gets over their first game jitters. If they don't...it'll gonna be a long season.

Zad said everything I was going to say.

Reality has set in. We're not a lock for the playoffs. No one is, for that matter. Detroit is 0-2 so far. Colorado beat San Jose and shut out Vancouver. Beginning of the season, guys.

Good things:

Kopitar
Smyth

Bad things:

Everything else.

That sums up this game. We don't need to over analyze what went wrong nor throw Quick or Doughty under the bus, like I did in the GDT. We have to remember most of these kids are just that: kids.

One thing I will say, however, is that a team looking this flatfooted and ill-prepared during the first game of the year lies entirely on the coaching staff. I have a sneaking suspicion no one, from the players to the coaches, took Phoenix seriously coming into tonight. Well, hopefully this will wake everyone the **** up and remember every team is dangerous on any given night.

This was a bad game to watch two days out of an appendectomy. Ugh.

Was anyone else surprised we didn't have our #1 line out to take the first face off of the game?

Terry Murray is coach. I am surprised Ivanans didn't take the draw But really, he matches lines right off the bat. He doesn't go by line order. The second shift was played by the third line.

I was confused why Frolov was on the line he was....I know they want to spread it out, but think he's really gonna have to work this year to score if he's on the 3rd or 4th line.

If he comes near his totals from last season, remaining on the third line with PP time, then he deserves a crazy long-term $6 million contract. Not that he will get it, but he will deserve it. I really hope this is all a stunt to motivate him, if they kick him out it will be a travesty anyway you look at it. Only way I will accept it is if we get a worthy return for him - then it will be just hockey business. But if you are willing to trade him straight up for the 28th overall pick or something over signing him to any deal whatsoever then the "tatoo on your butt" analogy goes up in smoke.

This topic has been covered way too many times on this board but I will do it again just so you will know. Frolov may be on the third line if you're looking at it on paper but he gets as much ice time as a top line forward would on most nights. He also gets a lot of time on special teams.

TeMu play's his checking line as much as his second line. Jim even mentioned this on tonight's telecast. I for one think Fro will excel in this role.

I can almost guarantee that there is no way Kopi would be at the top of the crease in a TM system. TM plays defensive so I would think the center would almost always be high slot if Smyth is behind the net with the puck.

Really considering the Kings have no power forwards...... even funnier is that 4 of the sharks top6 are 6'2" or taller, making them much more "power forwards" than the kings.

I'm not sure if he will or not...it's a gamble...on a bright note, the monarchs won 6-3...

It does make it easier when you have Oscar Moller on your line...they'll both be fun to watch when they're on the team....
