Habs and Marc-Andre Bergeron Talking

http://blogues.cyberpresse.ca/lnh/

Straight from Bergeron's agent, the habs and Bergeron have discussed the possibility of bringing him in.

It looks like it was Bergeron's agent who first contacted the team, but according to him they have discussed bringing him in twice.

I really hope they don't bring him in, he is awful defensively, and we have depth on D. We need to give Weber and Carle a shot before we resort to free agent leftovers.

I think Gainey is looking at several option, MAB being one of them, hopefully neat the bottom of the list.

I'd much rather see Webber, PK and carle have a shot and see what they do with it. Then look at possible trade options if they need to chore up then look at guys like MAB and Backstum.

Agreed - it's time to give Weber a real shot, he's deerving and the conditions are right.

Honestly I'd rather see Weber with Belle as the 7th D for a week or two and see how that goes.

As a #7 D i wouldn't mind him, we don't want to call up Weber and Carle and have one of them not playing when they could be playing in the AHL. I just hope it's not to be an every game thing...

He's pretty much a PP specialist. And I don't care if anyone says otherwise..he's horrible in his own zone.

Any chance he can play fourth line forward minutes and PP time on the point?

I really think Weber deserves a shot though, atleast play him these 3 games out West, see how he responds and if it's blatant that he is not yet ready we'll have to give another a chance. Even Carle I thought had a really good camp, and could be a good option right now.

I have no problem with Gainey signing MAB.

He would be cheap and he's a perfect fit with what we need right now: a PP specialist.

Weber should be call up too, but with OB down we need to get a veteran.

Or Gainey could trade but the option are slim since we are just looking for temporary help.

Wait and see. Weber will propably play tuesday.

Hamrlik - Spacek
Jorges - Weber
Gill - Mara

Weber would play with Gill on the bottom pairing for the time being (no more than 14-15 minutes, mainly on PP, would be fine)

I was just thinking about something,

It's a shame that Schneider isn't still a FA, I'm sure his phone would have rang with Gainey on the other end by now....

That would have been a perfect fit. I would love to see him back in Habs uniform.

Its called agents tactics, he is trying to use the fench media to put pressure on the Habs ! No way does BG fall for this crap. MAB is not an NHL caliber defenseman. This explains why he is not working now.

So, you're telling that there is over 200 better d-men in the NHL than MAB right now ?

No way !

The guy can be an effective 6th d-man with PP mission anytime. he was +5 last year in Minny.

MAB = Brisebois II = No thanks

I say we find the solution within the organization. Weber may not be as effective as MAB on the PP (not yet anyway) but he's better defensively and less prone to turnovers.

Call him up and see what happens i say.

who here has actually watched him play more than 10 games last year?

At this point we need someone to move the puck up the ice and play on the PP.
You play him selectively and he could be alright as a 6th-7th guy.

BTW he was a plus 5 last year, so im not gonna pretend i watched him play much, but horrible defensively and a plus 5 arent usually in the same category. markov was a -2, what was he then?

I think people base their opinions on other posters and internet bloggers. Watch him play then decide.

Of course, it is the solution number 1...

But O'B is gone for 6 weeks and Markov, for 4-5 months.

They need two d-men now to have 6 + 1 backup.

Weber and Carle ?
Weber and Belle ?
Weber and Subban ?

or

Webber and MAB
Weber and Dandenault
Weber and ????

I would go for Weber and Dandenault (at the right price)

You guys need to understand that we have 2 guys out for over a month including our best player and that the likelihood of another D being injured in that time frame is still pretty high (even if it's just for 2-3 games). We need at least one veteran guy to fill in because playing 2 rookies D's in an emergency situation like this is asking for trouble.

Also I think we just gained quite a bit of cap relief from the 2 injuries that signing a guy like Bergeron or even Chelios for under a million each has little effect on our cap situation.

I wouldn't mind signing MAB. We can still call up Weber.

We need 2 defensemen right now, calling up two guys from hamilton might not be a good idea.

I can't speak for other but I live out West and watch plenty of Western Conference games...I've seen Bergeron for the Oilers and the Wild more than enough to get an opinion on him.

In my opinion, yes he is horrible defensively.
