I'm definitely not a Ivanans hater but in a game like last night, we didn't need an Ivanans. Harrold may have not been a much better option but TM needs to do a better job of matching up against the opponents.

I sure wish Schenn was still up here. Richardson/Schenn/Lewis would have been my selection for the 4th line.

Agreed on Tippett. He should have absolutely been hired over Murray.

I sort of have to agree with you guys here. TM is all about working hard and playing tough but he doesn't seem to know a whole lot about "X"s and "O"s of the game imo.

it felt like we were playing the red wings last night. completely picked apart and when there was a blatant turnover(s) that led directly to goal(s). awesome opener.

I just want to mention how misleading +/- can be. Most agree Johnson was anywhere from solid-to-good in the game, yet he was a -3 and had no points. If you were only looking at the stat sheet, you'd think he was terrible.

The Kings should hire the Ultimate Warrior. I'm sure he could motivate the team between periods with inspirational speeches such as this:

We could have really used one of those "criminals" last night; we played too nice.

The Kings needed to do something to try and turn the tempo of the game after the second goal but there was no one who did anything to get the Yotes off of their game. That can't happen all season long.

And that's exactly why Clune is going to stick on this team. Ivanans didn't have a heavy to dance with. Simmonds didn't try. Instead of getting in that pushing match, Johnson should've just dropped the gloves and went with Upshall. No one else even seemed interested in mixing it up.

Sign Gauthier!

before they start getting into fights, they need to consider actually throwing a few body checks. did they take the body at all last night?

Lewis and Johnson were the only 2 throwing the body around, and one was completely outmatched.

Greene threw his weight around. Not fair to leave him out of that conversation.

Agreed...Lewis tries, god bless him, but he ends up flopping around like a fish. He looks Moller-sized out there.

Yotes fan here and must say was very happy with the way we played. I was at the game and I've been through this thread and agree with a lot of what has been observed. I'd say you have give the Coyotes a little bit of credit for forcing many of those turnovers.

Even before Tippett got here Samuelson had the 'Yotes playing a much more aggressive style without the puck, keeping pressure up in the offensive zone; forechecking, clogging passing lanes, and generally being pains in the ***** as the opponents moved up ice. And you saw the result last night. PK is still a big achilles heal and the Kings exposed it.

I won't turn this into a Yotes post anymore than I already have but I highly recommend you go after anyone lobbying for Gretzky as Coach and tell them to SHUT UP!

TGO is an amazing guy, he saved the Yotes in 2001, and he got totally rat****ed by Moyes and the NHL this summer getting dragged through the BK mess. But he is a horrible coach.

Had TGO been behind the bench last night it would have been a different result. If you need to replace Murray do it, just don't go with Wayne. He'll simply drive you more crazy than you are already are after this game.

BOL in 76 of your remaining 81 games.

I watched last night's game tonight and other than Quick's and Doughty's tragic mistakes, of which there were many, it seem to me that the biggest problem the Kings have right now is an inability to pass the puck, as silly and simple as that sounds. That was some of the most horrid passing I've ever seen in a pro game, and I have season tickets to the Monarchs and coach my kid's Bantam team. Terrible passing.

Definately. Some of the worst passing I've ever seen. I can pass better than that.

I'd like to see Quick start against the Sharks, but I'd have no problem trying out Ersberg if things get real bad again.

Quick will start against San Jose. Murray isn't going to start a goal tending carousel until at least the Kings can defend in their own zone.

You can't expect much out of Quick if the Kings keep turning the puck over in their own zone.

So did Brown. I'm still pissed about this loss but we are like 5-1 in our last 6 season openers so maybe losing this one is actually a good sign.

it seemed like a lot of the terrible execution of puck movement in general was a result of poor organization, or at least worse organization than phoenix put together. the kings seemed to be either out of position from chasing the puck into bad areas, shying away from traffic areas, or backing away from supporting one another along the boards.

to be fair to the coyotes, they did play a good game, and they knew what they were about. combining that with poor kings organization produced the awful passing and giveaways.

Here's my one positive from all this, now that I've had a day of football and a lot of drinks to forget the debacle that was game 1:

These guys looked seriously dejected, disappointed, and PISSED that they lost this game, and every look and interview supports that. Yes, it was a total disaster, but when was the last time this team was genuinely THIS upset over one loss?

I know that doesn't fix their problems, but that's a good sign that a culture change is working its way up.
