7th Dman options?

I know it's not a huge concern but I think they do need one

seems like they don't want to go from within cause it would be another young guy sitting around

so with that who is really out their as a UFA?

Bergeron, Dandenault?......

who ever it is will have to just be happy with getting a NHL contract and being on a roster

I think Dandenault would be good since he is a F aswell

Also as much as he stinks they could likely get David Hale from TB for a 7th rounder or futures. Atleast he is a veteran and makes 700K

Voros seems to have the lock on a roster spot whether I like it or not although when Avery is back I think he will get benched

but I don't think he is moved for a Dman

Whoever it is..he has to be a DEFENSIVE Dman.

For a bottom pairing man I want someone who i can count on to play solid defense. I dont give two craps if he score a goal or not(we have two rookie dmen who can do that)..he's going to play 12 minutes, just make sure the puck doesnt go in the net in that time.

I'd also like that defensive dman to know how to throw a hit..but thats just a bonus.

I agree with FLY here. It has to be someone who is sound in his own zone. That's all I care about.

Pass on him. I'd rather make a run at Rumun Ndur or Jason Doig.

We need a defensive dman that can actually play defensive though.

I agree with Fly's assessment. Semenov was not the greatest but would probably have been a pretty good fit with that. I think we have a couple weeks to play with anyway and should not just take anyone to fill a hole. I'm wondering just how healthy Van Ryn is for one--though his cap number might be too high. Someone like a Lebda who has been on a winning team. Again the cap hit is important as well.

Marek Malik, we could use another useless player with SO talent to go with Kotalik (sorry had to get a dig in).

I rather have Williams in Hartford but I bet Fahey would of been an option cause he's an older AHL dude that would be fine with being a spare.

Semenov sign in the KHL yet cause that's where I would think he goes

I suspect a bottom of the roster trade (i.e. Arnason, Boyle, Voros etc.) might be the most likely route. If someone needs/wants to move salary, we would ahve to send some back. UFAs left aren't very appealing.

Here's what Torts had to say about the 7th d-man situation on Zipay's blog:

Quote:
"I'm not gonna lie to you, sure it is. It is a concern, I'm sure something will give sooner or later. We need to do our due diligence. To me, if it's a guy who has some warts, as some of a young kid in our organization, I'd rather keep it within our organization...I don't think that's a really good situation for us. Obviously, we'd like to try to get some sort of veteran who can help out. You can't force-feed that position continually, as young as we are right now. That's why it's taking some time, we want to find the right guy that understands that role while we get to continue to develop our young guys along the way."
It seems like Torts would prefer a veteran as opposed to throwing another youngster into the fire, which is logical considering we already have 2 rookie d-men.

We have had some bad luck with the 7th d-man thus far. McLaren wasn't even healthy enough for camp and then Semenov turns down the offer. Now it looks like there are slim pickings out there.

If the 7th defenseman is such a "concern" right now, then maybe they should have locked one up over the summer? There were a couple of 6-7 defensemen available as FAs for under $1 million. It seems like the Rangers anticipated having 2 rookie defensemen on the roster so signing a veteran 7th defenseman would be a logical choice. In retrospect, they probably should have made it more of a priority but it's too late now.

Denis Gauthier is still out there. and he was Sather's first choice for a potential #7.

I'd rather see the 7th spot filled from within.

Sauer. Yes please.

"I'm not going to lie; sure it's a concern," Tortorella said. "It's a concern to everyone, but I know that Glen [Sather] and the organization are looking to solve that."

If the coach believed that either Corey Potter or Michael Sauer was NHL-ready, a promotion could provide at least a short-term solution, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The Rangers don't want Bobby Sanguinetti here unless he's going to be a fixture in the lineup.

So the search for a veteran, the search for an updated version of Jason Strudwick, continues.

If Potter isn't NHL ready at the age of 25,then he'll never be ready. Enjoy group 6 UFA status next summer Corey like Greg Moore did. Moore couldn't make the Islanders.

Bouillon would not be content with not playing. The Rangers want a vet who is content not playing many games while the young guys play. That is not Bouillon.

What good does it do Sauer playing maybe once a week? Besides, I don't think Tortorella could be any more clear in stating that he wants a veteran for the seventh spot.

I think this is the perfect oppportunity for Sauer to break into the lineup. Not sure if he isn't liked by Torts, or if the org just thinks differently...but if he was called up this way there really isn't much pressure on him to succeed. In this type of scenerio I think Sauer has a better chance of making this team.

I agree with everyone in that this should be a defensive Dman. MA Bergeron is absolutely horrific defensively and the Rangers have plenty of puck moving ability from the back end. There is not alot out there so Torts may be forced to pick someone from HFD every once in awhile.
